Overall, Dragon Age is another excellent role-playing game from Bioware, and fans of the developer or dark fantasy will find much to enjoy. With a deep, rich story that pulls you in by forcing you to make those tough and many times, critical decisions, the player will find themselves consumed in the world. Due to the effort put forth on story-telling, voice acting and character development, it is easy to forgive the graphical shortcomings. Be prepared to spend hours upon hours with this game if you want to squeeze every drop out of the lore. There are multiple endings, romances and plenty of side quests to keep you coming back for more and will hold you over until the inevitable sequel. |

Fantastic game in Bioware's excellent tradition of quality. If you have played KOTOR you will feel right at home. The dialogue system is better than ever with hundreds of unique characters. The gameplay is tight and interesting (although I think the menu system could have used a bit of tweaking). The single strongest point of this game is the writing. Whereas games like Fable advertise that every choice has consequences and then don't deliver, this game truly does. Every choice you make affects the story and gameplay. I didn't really get the "Origins" thing until I played it either, but it is a very important part of making you feel as if you are in a living world. By the end of your characters origin, you will truly feel for his / her plight, and the character you choose to be will be truly yours for the rest of the game. The only downside are the graphics. A mixed bag of mediocre background, but fantastically animated faces. Not bad enough to turn anyone away though. |

almost everything about the game is perfect except the graphics. They are a little dated. But it is such a great experience |

The graphics are dated in this game, yes... but they're dated like KOTOR 2 was dated... that is, you really don't care about them once you get into the story. I'm finding myself really enjoying this game, and I'm only about 6 hours in with my first character.
The writing and world itself, is excellent, even if on first impression it gives off a lord of the rings vibe (especially the first two hours), but the differences become quite clear after the original battle (which I won't describe due to spoilers). The combat system is in depth, with the ability to control each character individually, or use a system that's much like a pared down version of FFXII's gambit system.
The character discussion and interactions (between the main and other characters, and between each other) is reminiscent of KOTOR as well, though much more in depth. The voice acting in generally excellent, except for the voice you select for your character, which is generally cringe worthy and only for battle. |

I'm a few hours into Dragon Age and, having completed a couple of the different origin intros, find myself really enjoying it.
The graphics are definitely dated and are nowhere near as impressive as some of the other top-tier games to come out recently. Fortunately, I'm usually too engrossed in the story to really notice.
The voice acting and writing are top-notch and combat feels familiar and comfortable.
I was worried that the console version wouldn't hold up well, but I'm really enjoying it and can't wait to jump back into the story. |
