It's not like I hate the OU team. It's just that they can't field a team without taking Texas talent.
It's been forever since UT has been #1 in the regular season.
Great game to watch even though it gave me heart burn.

What a slugfest. Does the Big 12/SEC/PAC-10 even practice defense? How is it we routinely get these big games from those conferences in the 90+ point range? Not that I'm really complaining, it was certainly a heckuva game. I'm just curious as to why a big team from the western/southern type conferences doesn't recruit a better defense and steamroll the competition.
Texas is good, no doubt there. They have a ridiculously tough schedule ahead of them though, and if they win out they most certainly deserve to be tops. The other also-rans (Florida, LSU, Ohio State, etc.) will probably falter yet again at some point. I'm not sure about Alabama...they're a bit of a mystery to me. OK will probably come back although the loss to Texas certainly hurts. USC...well, let's just say I think they'll lose again.
Don't sleep on the Nittany Lions, though. They have a chance to barrel through the Big Eleven, if they don't do something stupid (like fall asleep at the wheel next week at home). If they do win out, fear them in a title game. They're ridiculously well coached, strong in all three phases of the game (quick, what Big 12 team can say that?), and more than ready for the national spotlight again.
Disclosure: I am a born and bred Penn State fan. Doesn't mean I don't recognize great college football, though.

Or even the Big Ten
Not to knock your Lions, but look at their competition. Also, look at what the Big Ten has done against other conferences recently, not very impressive. For Ohio State, supposedly the best team in the Big Ten, to get bitch slapped for 60 mins by USC (again) doesn't speak so well for what was once a powerful conference. You can even add in the disaster that is Michigan this year.
Don't get me wrong, Joe is doing a great job in Happy Valley, but I could easily see a 1 loss team from the SEC or another power conference jumping Penn State in the rankings even if Penn State goes undefeated.
Yeah, I hear you there. If the supposed "best" team is decided by who they play instead of winning all their games, a lot of other conferences have an unfair "mindshare" advantage. Like you said, a "power" conference can say "we only lost to the other best team out there" and argue that a team like Penn State "didn't play anybody." I still think that any team that wins all their games deserves to be the highest ranked team, as long as this sport continues to use a moronic poll system to decide a champ. This is why conferences like the MAC get a bad rep.
As for the rest of the Big Eleven, you're right there's not much there. For the same reason you shouldn't sleep on the Lions though, don't count the Spartans out. Illinois has actually disappointed me more this year so far than the typical big dogs of the conference.
cheeznrice: Or even the Big Ten
This is a running gag for me and my dad. We never refer to it as its offical name, cause it's just wrong! Even though PSU made it the Big Eleven, it's dumber than the polls that they keep the old name.
i got a problem with conferences that don't have a championship game.
I like Jo pa.
UT has a ton of newbies in the secondary since most left for the NFL. but our Run D is stout as ever. I just hope Tech and Mizz doesn't light us up.
spooon:i got a problem with conferences that don't have a championship game.
I completely agree with that. Every conference needs a championship game, except the PAC-10 which should just be awarded to USC on an annual basis.
Well, now we're getting into the bigger problems with seasons/postseasons in college football. While I agree a conference final makes sense for everybody, a playoff makes even more sense. I have a feeling conference finals were made to shore up the poor bowl system that can't decide a champion the proper way.
Heck, if anyone needs a championship game more, it would be the Big Eleven. Remember 2005? PSU is three (added) seconds away from winning all their conference games. Instead, a loss to Michigan and a win against OSU results in: PSU 7-1, OSU 7-1. Since PSU beat OSU in the season, obviously the answer is: co-champs! I never figured that one out.
yeah. either have every BCS conference have a championship game or go full on playoff. USC loses to lesser teams all the time (stanford) so it's not fair for everyone else they get a walk in the park.
couple years ago Auburn was undefeated but didn't play in the championship game because USC and OU played for it. Makes no sense to snub Auburn when they won their conference when USC wins because of playing scrubs.
ND is another one of those teams. Independant. I want Texas to play ND so we can beat the heck out of them to get some revenge for getting stomped on in the past.
I would love a Penn vs UT. Penn killed us in a bowl game when we had ricky williams.
I would rather play alabama vs mizz or tech
I 'm not big on football so I don't really belong in this thread; but, I was on the drag when UT won, and everyone went crazy... it was hundreds of cars honking, people leaning out the windows and waving flags, and everyone yelling.
I was not prepared.

Well I think the last time Texas was No. 1 it was 2006. I'm not sure.

Ohio State was #1 for pretty much the entire year in 2006. Last time Texas was ranked #1 was 1984 (AP poll).
yeah, i was talking about being #1 in the regular season. Main reason UT has a hard time is because we keep losing to OU and the years we did sweep, scrub teams like USC got the nod because they got to play weaker team and NOT play a conference title game.
The year UT won it all they were #2 the whole year and played their championship game with vince young and our team basically killed Colorado by like 70.
Plus the year UT won it all I do believe our out of conference play included playing OSU and winning ;)
LONGHORNS & COWBOYZ FAN RIGHT HERE!
Anyways, I loved the game, it was interesting. My fav part was when the OU kicker faked his injury.

Thanks for clearing that up, because I was not sure when it was.
well, missouri looked like a cake walk. on to OSU who seems legit to win it
