Take a moment to remember and reflect in your own way.

I have a blog post at GamingWithChildren for today about this.

I remember that day like it was a movie playing in my head; im sure just about everyone does.  I'll never forget I thought it was a joke.  Some kid ran into my woodshop class and screamed the world trade center was hit by a plane and ran out.  We were all kind of like yeah, ok.  And then all the TVs went on in the school (they could be remote operated) and we saw the second plane hit.

Yea that was a weird day. Woke up at 6am for O period in high school. Turned on the tv, was like wow, when did they start showing movies in the morning. Got to school and it finally clicked. Majority of the people had no clue what happened until all the tvs were turned on. It was a solemn day at school that whole day.

I was in bed asleep. And I woke up from a bad dream and the first thing I did was call my friend David who is a DA in NY and was at the trade center visiting his fiance...he never answered. When I turned on the TV and saw what had happend I felt like I was in a daze all day.

I also posted on my personal blog:

It was the first day of preschool for my younger son and my wife had my older son at the playground and when she came back to pick the little one up she found out.

I was at work and had a visiting colleague who ended up stuck across the country from her family for an extra week.

I remember my parent sbeing stuck in Florida for a few days, as they could not fly home to Maryland. I remember turning on the TV right after the first plane hit and I knew in my mind instantly it was terrorism. I was in NY during the first WTC attack in the parking garage and this did not seem like a random plane crash. Just a surreal day all around, trying to get in touch with loved ones and praying or hoping for those you did not even know.

Like all of you, I can remember that day vividly but it's nearly impossible to find the words for the surreal, heart wrenching, disbelief that accompanied it.

I was working with my uncle fixing gutters on a bank. His girlfriend called when the first plane hit. We thought it was just some horrible accident. She called again when the second plane hit and we packed up quick and headed to his house. We all just stared at the news in disbelief for hours. Like a lot of people all I watched for the next week or so was the news. It was a horrible day for our country, and all of those that have lost loved ones.

I was working on a website I was running at the time when a friend of mine sent me an instant message asking me if I had been watching the news. I never watched the news back then so I said no and then they had told me that "America is under attack!" I immediately rushed to the TV and watched what was going on. Both planes had hit by that time. It was a crazy day. I had a lot of people online asking if I was ok because they knew I lived in NY, but I lived upstate, far from the tragedy.

Catastrophic

I was in Grade.5 when it happened. I was up in the morning getting ready for school and my parents told me to come watch the news and I saw the second plane hit. It was pretty crazy to witness something like that at age 11.

I worked in downtown DC at the time.  Watched the second tower get hit on CNN.com.  Then saw crazy reports that DC was getting hit.  Our boss's boss was in my cubicle watching the video and basically told us all to go home.  There were thousands of people cramming the metro lines and we were packed in tight. There is a point on the metro line where the train typically stalls under the Potomac river -- it happened again, but this time it wasn't business as usual.

Finally got to my stop, walking back there was a distinct smell in the air.  Entering my apartment complex I saw the dark burning smoke from the Pentagon, which was only a few miles away on the other side of Arlington Cemetry.

People were talking about fires on the national mall and chaos erupting all over the city.  My friend had a good view of mall and so I was on my way there when someone in his apartment building simply lost it.  This man went onto his balcony and was tossing all his furniture (tv, table, chairs, couch, dishes, computer, everthing!) -- he was probably 7 stories high.  He was screaming and yelling.  He also had a perfect view of the Pentagon.

Well I went to my friend's place to see if there was really chaos on the mall.  Nothing.  Very quiet.

Later that day I pick up my girlfriend and her friend in Maryland and drive to drop off her friend in Northern Virginia.  I take a detour back through DC b/c all roads around the Pentagon were of course closed.  At a red light by the Lincoln memorial I see a group of teenagers playing volleyball with the burning Pentagon at their back.  Very surreal.

DC didn't really open back up for business until a week later.  Everybody I knew just stayed home and watched the 24/7 coverage.   A few days after the attack my friend tells me there is going to be a vigil at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  I jump on my bike and see hundreds of people chanting "USA! USA!" They stop when, what looked like the Presidential Marine 1, helicopter hovers over us at about 100 yards away.

Impossible to forget.

I lived in New Jersey at the time. I was up in central Jersey visiting my cousins (closer to NY than Philly) when the towers collapsed. At about 3 o'clock that day, we could see black smoke drifting through the sky. That was one of the weirdest days of my life.

My uncle was supposed to be in the towers that day but stayed home sick. Quite the blessing.

Sorry for the late reply, been away.

I had the day off and I was sleeping in and heard the phone ringing incessantly.I got up to get the phone,It was my girlfriend asking me if my cousin was at work that day.I replied I didn't know and was  about to chew her a new ass for waking me up to ask such a dumb question when she interrupted me and told me to turn the television on and find a news channel.Which I did.The south tower was burning, the north yet to be hit.All I could say was "Oh My God"at which point the phone went dead.I sat on my couch in total bewilderment trying to listen to all the scattered reports and people trying to figure out what the  hell was going on.And then in came the second plane,I watched in absolute horror and marveled at the sheer insanity of what I was witnessing. And then I was overcome with Rage.Put a few holes in my walls and then sobbed like a baby.
