ok heres my dilema and i hope some can possibly help.i have original ps3 60 gig that supposed to be backwards compatible. i neer had a probally til recently. the system will not allow the games to play with my hdmi cord but if i change it over to av cables the ps2 gane works fine. i called sony and they want me to send my machine and 150 dollars to fix.. one why would i pay that kind of money when it plays everything else including ps1 games 2 i could change the setting all though it would be a pian in the ass 3 why pay that to play ps2 games when i can just buy a new ps2 and have it play the games for 129?? but any way the question is does anyone know what to do to fix this problem other then what icame up with by changing the settings continously. thank you in advance for any suggestions
That sounds like a real pain in the ass. I have the 60 gig PS3 as well and I have no problems playing PS2 games, even after changing to a HDTV with the HDMI cables.
Are you sure that the game you are trying to play is compatible? I know that almost all games are, but I believe that there are games out there that are not compatible. Have you tried more than 1 PS2 game? I wouldn't exactly be willing to ship out my system with $150 either.
When you say you are continously changing the settings are you just referring to the cables or is there something else you are having to tinker with?
I know of two games so far the do not work with the PS3 scaling, Mega Man Anniversary Collection and Mega Man X Anniversary Collection. They are 100% BC, but the setting on the PS3 for PS2/1 games is the culprit.
They work fine, but only if you turn off the scaling in the PS3 setting before playing. There may be other games like this as well, but I have not yet run into them.
no i have both sets of cable plugged in back of ps3 hdmi and a/v cables so ij ust have to go in settings change it back and forth and constatnly change input on my tv from hdmi to av and vice versa.. but yes i have tried more then one game but i do believe i have the scaling turned on so i will try to turn that off tomorrow and retry it all again thanks for the help so far

I would like to ask what games you have tried that are a no-go with the HDMI so far? Between my friends and I we have a ton of PS2 games, and I can always ask if anyone else has had issues like that.
ratchet and clank size matters ninja turtles 1 and 2 .. all three workwith a/v cables but none of them worked with the hdmi cable but ihave about another 180 - 190 to tst to make a lsit for you but its a pain in the @ss to do cause ihave to turn of the system and reboot it after trying each game
Ouch....no list needed, point made. I think I have Size Matters, so I will take a look and see if it works with my 60 gig.
ok i tried turning the scaling off and it still will not play the games thru the hdmi cord. any other suggestions anyone??
i don't know if this will help or not. i own an 80 gig and play on a standard teevee with av cables. alot of ps2 games wouldn't boot up. after reading around a bit on various forums i saw some posts that simply suggested waiting a few minutes after trying to start the game. after i read that i tried it and all of my games that wouldn't work seemed to work fine if i waited. but sometimes it takes my machine two or three minutes to seem to recognize the disc. i hope that helps.
