My Wii makes alot of noises when I play games on it, ever since I first got it. They're mostly clicking sounds, and stuff like that, but there are also little mechanical sounds. That's all good and fine, but it seems a little much recently and I'm getting kind of worried. Just now it made a really loud click that could probably have been heard throughout my house. Granted, it's not often that bad but still...

Do you guys have this sort of thing? Is there even anything I should be worried about, and if so something I should do? And my number one concern, is it messing up my games? Even if at all, because the game I'm playing now I may put up on goozex soon.

I wouldn't think it's messing up your games, but I would be worried about the system being about to die.  My wii is quite quiet, just a fan noise.  You may want to call Nintendo support.

My experience with them has been very good.  My kids pulled my wii off a shelf and broke it, and it was sent away, fixed and sent back within a week.  No charge, either.

Oh wow ok that sucks then. I mean does yours make any noises at all? Because these noises are usually like as I'm turning on the Wii and going to the game channel to start up a game. Also on loading screens.

But I have a question also for future reference...Is it bad to repeatedly reset the Wii? Like...after a minute, reset, then another minute, reset, or even like 30 seconds in between? Because I've been doing that with Fire Emblem in order to get good level ups...

Also another question, sometimes when I hit the reset button it doesn't reset and the game doesn't respond to anything, so I have to hold the power button to do that power off thing that makes the power button light turn red. Is that a bad sign? This has happened about 10-20 times since I got my Wii (which was since it came out).

Thanks to geech and anyone else who helps me out, I'll probably end up taking your advice and sending it out to Nintendo...the question, though, is when...

Oh and also, has anyone ever sent games they personally cleaned on goozex? If so, how did you clean them? Because my Fire Emblem game works just fine, but it has two 1/4 of a pea size spots of white hardened stuff (I'm thinking like toothpaste or something), and I want to clean it off. I'm just really worried about messing up and ruining it or something and I don't want to get a negative feedback or be blamed for being a scammer.

Yeah, sounds like there might be a problem with your drive...

Not sure about this...I think a soft reset should have no real effect on it.  A hard power off and on repeatedly woudl be a different story.

Haven't heard about this, but it certainly doesn't sound good.

I usually quickly wipe my games with a soft cloth used for lenses and glasses, and it takes off any dust and dirt without scratching.  If you're careful, you shouldn't damage the disc enough to warrant negative feedback.  It would certainly be better than the white stuff.

Do you get the drive noises just with the Fire Emblem disc, or all the time?  If it was only that disc, and it had something on it with even a small weight, that could explain it, because it would send the spin of the disc out of whack.  I'd get that stuff off ASAP.

Damage the disc enough to warrant negative feedback? You mean cleaning it damages it? Yikes...well I suppose if that's what I have to do...but also the noises are with any disc. Something I just found out is when I go to the main menu from the internet channel or some other channel with a disc inside the Wii, then it makes the noises, but when there's no disc and I do the same exact thing it doesn't make the noises. I don't know what that means but I thought I'd just let you know.

And also how long did it take for you to get your Wii back? I'm thinking about waiting until at least past next Friday so I can finally do a Brawl MVP night.

Thanks again, you've been really helpful. :)

No, no, you would have to clean it very roughly to damage it.  If you're careful, it will be fine.

I believe from the day I sent it out to when I got it back it was about a week and a half.  Now, that's with warranty coverage.  I don't know if it would be the same for yours if you are out of warranty.

If you're getting noises with a disc in, and not with no disc, then the problem is almost certainly going to be in your drive.

If you're worried about time, some electronics stores that would do Wii modding might be able to replace your drive for you.  Might be expensive, but would be faster.

Oh ok cool. I'll go ahead and clean it now then. :p

And ok that's fine I'll just send it to Nintendo. I'd rather wait longer for free than pay for speed.

I think...that's it. If something else happens or I have any questions regarding this stuff then I'll just post back here. :D

Careful about assuming it will be free for sending it to Nintendo.  If you bought it right when it was out, you'll be out of warranty.  When you call, they should be able to give you an estimate.
