Yesterday, I sent out a disc only copy of a game to a fairly new user.  The game was Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 for those that are curious.  I put the disc in a disc saver, wrapped it in bubble wrap, and used a Priority Mail media mailer to ship it out.  I paid for Priority because I was a few days late with shipping.

I dropped it off in a mailbox, confirmed shipping in the Goozex console, and went on my merry way.

I come home from work about an hour ago, and you can imagine my surprise when I find the box sitting in my mailbox.  With a huge gash on the side of the box.

I got Delivery Confirmation, but the label was never scanned according to the tracking info.  The game, as I said, was dropped off in a public mailbox before the pickup time and ended up back in my mailbox this evening.

Most importantly, though, the disc wasn't inside when I opened it up.  The disc and the sleeve were both missing (though the bubble wrap was still there).

My plan of action is as follows:

1. Call the post office in the morning and explain what happened.

2. Explain to the seller what happened.

3. Ask for a trade cancellation.

Seems like I'm out 100 points no matter what I do, but it's better than taking a neutral or a negative for sending the wrong game (or no game).

Is there anything I'm forgetting, or is there a better way to go about this that I haven't considered?

Thanks.  Surprise

wow that sucks, looks like a theif went through the mailbox. cut open the packages, stole the contents, and put them back into public mailbox, wow, i always take my packages to post office, but it is only a 1 min. drive up the road, , I would also email Feedback@goozex.com and explain what happened and show them the picture and they may even give you the 100 points for your hard troubles

sellers can now cancel without getting approval from the buyer, so i would go that route with a nice long explaination. i don't know why goozex never announced this feature (they treated it like a bug when it first happened to me in late june) but it does still exist.

Yes, I've heard about this, but still, it's kinda crummy for the buyer.  I think there's another copy currently available for trading from the game page, but I feel bad for them.

Is it even possible to break into a mailbox like that?  My first suspicion was that a postal worker did something.  I would think there would be a stamp or whatever if it was processed as a damaged parcel.  The darn thing wasn't even scanned according to the tracking info.
