I feel like I need to vent my frustrations with Soul Calibur IV's online mode. First things first, I think there should be a rematch option at the end of the battle. If one person asks, the other person could accept or decline. That would be nice. I have fought a few people I would love to have gone a few rounds with.
On the other hand, the brunt of my beef with this game is the complete over abundance of cheap asses who don't even play, they just continuously do the same move over and over until you die or fall out of the ring. It's not only annoying as all hell, but it's actually rediculously effective.
This is the first fighting game I have played with an online feature and I was pretty excited about it, but these people have completely ruined my experience with this game. I just stopped playing out of total frustration. I'm the type of person who likes to pick characters and game styles that are a bit out of the norm. Case in point, for this game I made up a character who uses Setsuke's weapons and moves and thought it would be fun to master her style and try it out online. I played until I was very comfortable with my character and took it online. I lost my first 12 matches straight. Most of which were to the type of players I mentioned earlier.
I've had a few good close battles with some skilled people but for the most part I was getting poked to death by Kilik or Seigfried characters. This type of thing almost enough for me to just say the hell with it and trade it to someone else (which I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to get it from me)
Edit: Broken up for easier reading
1. Wall of Text. Sorry, but trying to read that hurt, so I skimmed for a few seconds.
2. In my skimming, I wanted to see if you had the same complaint as my friend did. See, he called me up randomly and literally went on a 10 minute rant about how annoying it was that such a great game's online mode was being killed by everyone deciding that they were "teh uber 1337 Kilik users." Seems he's the cheap player of choice. I myself used him playing locallay (AKA, on the same couch) and had fun with him. Meh.
Catastrophic:the brunt of my beef
Would that be the brisket?
How It Works + The FAQ x Help Guide = edumacation. Epic Fail.

I love you
I have yet to venture online with this game for fear of this happening. I think that this is just a major problem with playing strangers online. Unfortunately you have the PS3 version and I have the 360 version, but other Gooozers are bound to have SCIV on the PS3. Playing them should be more enjoyable.
The Dreamcast Soulcalibur so far still reigns as the pinnacle of fighting games. I know in that version you could defend against almost anything, or preform impacts to counter cheep moves. I'm no where near being able to do that in SCIV. Local matches on the DC version were some of my fondest gaming moments. I too used Kilik, as well as Hwang, and Seung Mina. It's sad that people use him to be cheep with.
So far I've just been running through the story mode to try and unlock all the characters. I really haven't gotten the hang of the game yet. I do have hopes that it will at least hold my attention more then the other fighting games I've played recently. I also hope that more Goozexers get this on the 360 so we can play.
