So I just want to get a general consensus from everone as to which game is better and why? I played the demo of skate when it came out and wasnt that impressed and now finally got around to getting the game and I am still not that impressed...they have some great ideas in there for sure but the way they put them in there is terrible some times...like the camera for instance if probably the worst camera in any game ever to date period!! I know they were going for the "you are always on camera" thing but it just breaks the game in so many ways. Where as Tony Hawk has been done a million times yes i know and it is betting boring but at the same time the game is still just so much more injoyable I think.
Idk I put my two cents in and maybe alot of the issues will be addressed in skate 2, I know they will give you the option to change the view that was their biggest complaint from what I've read.
But I just want to hear from you guys what you think on this matter.
skate is more for like hardcore gamer types that want an actual challenge but tony hawk is liked a lot more by people who just wanna be a good skateboarder and not have to worry about learnin the tricks. personally i like tony hawks better. and plus i met tony hawk before and hes cool.

I tried the Skate demo. It just seemed to difficult. Tony Hawk is more fun to play.
Skate is one of my favorite games of all time. The controls were so groundbreaking. TH has slowly been declining since Underground. IMO, the past 3 or 4 TH games are some of the worst ever. Skate's multiplayer was a blast, as well.

I been riding a real skateboard for around 20 years now, and a virtual one since the days of Skate or Die & 720.
When it comes down to Tony Hawk versus Skate for me there is no comparison.
Don't get me wrong, the first few Tony Hawk games were fantastic - but somewhere along the way things got screwed up. When the game became nothing more than an endless combo run with mindless 'Jackass' like comedy it lost me. I think this was around the same time I was doing mctwists off a blimp onto a telephone wire that lead into an alien compound.
When I first played the Skate demo on the 360 I was floored. Tricks no longer felt like street fighter combos, and the insanity of keeping a combo going was replaced with the sheer joy of busting out a few tricks in a line.
Even just doing simple kickflips was a satisfying thing. Pull off a 360 flip and it felt nearly as good as when you nail one on a real skateboard.
For me, Skate provides a much more fluid and enjoyable experience. While I did have some good times with Tony Hawk's games, I don't think I'll be picking any more of them.
If you're looking for an arcade skating game, I would recommend Tony Hawk.
If you're looking for more of a skate sim, SKATE is definitely the way to go.

For everyone who picks skate over tony hawk must have forgotten the joy of tony hawk 1 and 2.
I did play the demo for skate and didn't like it. I don't think it's even worth a rental on my blockbuster gamepass.

I thought the same thing about the Skate demo at first, but once it 'clicks' - holy crap is it great. I think that adds to it's charm as well. You can't just jump on a skateboard and do a 900 down a flight of steps to a manual. In Skate you need to get a feel for it and start just like you would on a real board.
I also think most of us have the Tony Hawk hinderance, meaning we've spent so many years playing Tony Hawk games that it's tough to unlearn the control scheme.
THPS2 FTW.
Didn't forget the

Didn't forget the joy of those first two games, just relived it with Skate :)
You really should give the demo another shot. Once you get it, the game is just amazing.
see thats the thing though im not bad at the game in any way its just way to frustrating for its own good......like i said before i think the view has a ton to do with it and will be resolved in the second one...but at the end of the day if i want super realistic skateboarding ill go outside and ride or go to the nearest skatepark....idk im enjoying skate but i dont think ill play it again once i get my proving grounds in the mail......oh and what the hell happened to bmx games nothing since dave mira 2? wtf!?!?!

I'm off the crack (for now). I thought Activision tried their hand at BMX, snowboarding and wakeboarding games. I can't remember but I don't think they did very well.

Yeah, I do recall Activision trying to duplicate their Tony Hawk success with any other 'extreme' sport and a name they could get their hands on. There was also the BMXXX debacle which probably killed the chance of any future BMX games...
