I know the MVP nights now have set rules about invitations and # of participants, which in turn leads to 200 points a week for the mighty; but what are the guidelines and differences for tournaments and leagues?  The goozlympics fell under the tournament category, but outside of that, activity there has been low.  Leagues seem to be long term events, and there even seems to be cross-breeding of leagues and MVPs with Tiger Woods.

Is the current format for leagues and tournaments pretty open, and anyone can start one up?

Are MVP events restricted to once a week, or is frequency not an issue, as long as the MVP requirements are met?

Thanks!

Okay I am going to try to help as much as I can here.

I think an MVP night can be a tournament or a league or anything whatever. So that we don't have "Brawl Leage every Wednesday, Call of Duty 4 Tournament Tonight, blah blah blah blah!"

Also for the MVP nights restricted to once per week I think that is highly suggested its just more simple.

Sorry if I didn't help, I'm not a moderator or anything.

I believe Leagues require 8 people minimum and run for at least a month and must be advertised in the forums.  I also think invites should be sent to everyone on the play now list to give everyone a shot at joining.

I believe tournaments would work very similar.  I know Taintedzodiac has worked very hard with BlackCoyote in determining how these events should be handled.  So I'm hoping Tainted will shed some light on this.  (I could have sworn BlackCoyote posted something about this)

I'm a really stupid poopy. I didn't even answer the main question and its in the freakin title! Anyway, I think you answered it in your post a league and a tournament are very similar but a tournament is a 1 time thing and a league is continuous. (You think I know how to spell THAT?

Tournaments haven't really been hashed out yet afaik (in the sense that a tournament is a single or multi-day event with a bracket or a round-robin).

Leagues are being tested with Tiger at the moment but will work as such:

  • A thread is created for signups.
  • Once 8 people sign up, they are put into a new league for that game and have a month to get all their games in.
  • Each person in the league plays each other person in the league once. Results are reported in a thread created just for that league of 8.
  • Once all the games have been played or the month is up, winner is determined and receives 200 points.

I'd say give Tiger 08 another week to see if it gets off the ground. I'll start up a thread for Brawl then and we can see how well it works or not.

Thanks for the reply Tainted.

If it's a matter of resources, I'd be happy to set-up monitor, and report back on a Brawl (and/or Kart) League.  If there are other circumstances to which I am not privy, I'll hold back and wait till you give the go-ahead.

Edit: and of course, thanks to cheeze and neji for their insights!
