Get Vista, or you won't be able to utilize your video card to its full potential.
DirectX 10 is Vista only :(

I did the free upgrade to Windows Vista back when I bought my laptop. Then some of my drivers messed up and half my games weren't compatible. So, if the computer already comes with Vista, that's a huge plus. If you have a stack of PC games you haven't played in a while and may play again, stick with XP for sure. Luckily, when I sent in my laptop for repair, the techs there reformatted my computer back to XP. Now everything works again. Sounds like you have a sweet desktop setup, so I would definitely get Vista for the DirectX 10 capability. Keep an XP machine around though, so if something doesn't work with Vista, you're not up the creek.
ok thanks for the advice, but havent had the requirements for most of the games and the ones that worked were slow and lagy and way beyod playable. What about games like double agent i heard it was filled with bugs and its xp only,so that mean i can run it in compatablility mode and what about those non supported cards cuz it says it requires at least a 6600 and it is required for a 7900. will games still run or will i have to change the performance settings?
Hmm, I really don't know. I have a decent laptop so when I buy a game, I just pray that is works with my integrated graphics! LOL As for compatibility mode in Vista, it never worked for those games I just couldn't get working. It's like good luck getting them to work the first time, but if you can't compatibility mode doesn't appear to work worth anything. I liked playing games from 1998 to 2005 until I joined Goozex and then could actually get new games with the points I earn from trades. The games from 1998 to 2005 were the games that didn't work in Vista that I mentioned in the previous post. I wouldn't count on Double Agent working. Who knows though? It's Microsoft, so you either get lucky with compatibility or you get screwed.
akups09, alot of the games you mentioned are console ports that don't work great in any Windows version in general. Those aren't REAL PC games. Crysis is the only game you memtioned that was optimized for the PC (well, a PC of the future). Are you sure you wouldn't just rather get an XBOX 360, because that's what it sounds like you're after.
I have Vista, and so far I love it, no problems at all. I've had problems with a few older games but that's what compatibility mode is for.
akups09, I wish you could make that speech to all of my MAC loving buddies. I also believe the PC is the greatest gaming system ever made (though I will say the XBOX 360 is a pretty close second).
The quad-core you have shoud be great for running Vista. Stick with that over XP.
I would most definatly go with Windows Vista. I love it as for gaming it has a near perfect compatability mode for older games. The only games I have that don't work are older ones like Day of the Tentacle, and it doesn't work because it was made to run on DOS. I personally love Vista, it's very sleek and good looking.
MAC!
Linux!!!, personnaly id go for vista because better to have it now for the future instead of having to upgrade and screw up your stuff like i did with my desktop which i had to buy xp and reinstall it because i didnt make a back up and didnt get recovery disks from dell. Dont go with linux for gaming though by the way but it is nice to mess around with or if your in need of an os and dont have money or the proper hard drive for windows. I had my dads laptop harddrive screw up and had to use my external drive for ubuntu so he could do his job.
no way sorry, but the MAC has very limited games and if they do well for example i remember medal of honor allied assuault first coming out, but the MAC version didnt come out until later maybe a year

PieMaster and akups09 just made my friends list for their great dedication and defense of the PC gaming realm! If you read my profile, I only play on PC. Gaming controllers are too awkward. I hate the idea of two joysticks plus tons of buttons! Mouse and keyboard is more versatile and customizable. I get my pick of wireless laser mouse, trackball mouse, or joystick. Also, we get more upgrades and mods to our existing games.
Sorry, I meant PieMonster. lol
