I must ask this of both residents of Pennsylvania and the United States. Isnt there enough going on in this country that we dont need another investigation into a sporting event. I know Senetor Arlen Spectoer is a little more than sour grapes that the Patriots may have stolen signs from his beloved Eagles, but wqhere the economy is right now I find it hard to believe anyone wants one dime of there tax dollars to go into an investigation that will ultimately yield no new information.

We all know Hoodie cheated, what exactly does Specter hope to accomplish other than wasting millions of tax dollars on another investigation into breaking rules in sports? This isnt about illegal drugs, gambling or anything unconstitutional. the government has no place in this matter, period!

There is also the matter of Spector having recieved $500,000 to his PAC from Comcast, the company the NFL is in court with about the NFL Network. You know I think the Spygate thing is real and detrimental to the sport, but Spector should shut up. Honestly though, when has Congress ever done a damn thing worthwhile to help the economy?

This is a very slippery slope.  Who has the authority to say which cases can be tried, and which can't.  I believe if you have a valid complaint, you should be able to have your day in court.

That withstanding, this is not really a civil case, so I don't see why it would end up in court.  Don't they have some sort of mediation process they could use.  How did the NFL rule on this?  Are they requesting that Congress step in and help?  If so, I would think they should cover the bill.

I believe the consenus in the NFL is that this should just go away and move on. It really depends on who your team is. I believe both Pitt and Phill said it really wasnt an issue and Pitt even went as far as to say they didnt believe it had a hand in the out come of the playoff games.

I believe Goddell says that they havent found any real new information form the Matt Walsh tapes that would require additional punishment. I think what leaves a bad taste in some peoples mouths is that the penalty was a draft pick (second to last in this past draft, plus some cash), but the Pats had already secured a #7 pick overall from San Fran so on paper it didnt seem that harsh.

I just feel unless something illegal has been done (by law, not league rules) the government has no business getting involved in this. Im getting the feeling some of these Senetors are getting in on this stuff for there own personal gain and nothing more.

That is probably a very effective way to get support from your constituants. At least the teen to middle-aged, male demographic.

Makes you wonder if this whole democracy thing is all it's cracked up to be.

Well the support he's hoping for is really the continued support, as previously mentioned, from Comcast, one of his largest benefactors.

Congress's jursidiction in this matter lies in the NFL's monopoly waiver, which was granted by Congress. Officially speaking, Congress needs to make sure the league is operating on the straight and narrow to justify its continued monopoly. Realistically speaking, it's just Spectre pandering to his funder.

But you bring up a good question, at what point do we determine an issue is too expensive to be resolved? And what disputes get that treatment?
