This thread serves as the main point of information on how to trade Wii Virtual Console Games through the Goozex system. By reading this, you should be able to understand the process, as well as the pitfalls that might occur when trying to "trade" these games.

Some points to consider before trading:

  1. Wii Virtual Console games can NOT be traded if you have already purchased them. You can only send someone a game by buying it yourself and using the Wii Shop's built-in "Gift" system.
  2. You can only send/receive a game on your Wii if you have registered the other trader's Wii Console Friend Code on your Wii AND they have done the same with your Friend Code on their Wii.
  3. There is no actual physical product changning hands. There are no shipping charges involved and you will NOT receive a physical manual, case, or game disc.

Step-by-Step Guide to Trading Wii VC Games:

  1. Before you even list an offer or reuqest, set your Wii to allow receiving of Gifts (see the guide at the very bottom of this post).
  2. Buyer and Seller should both list their request/offer as Disc Only.
  3. When matched, the seller should agree to "ship."
  4. Both buyer and seller should PM each other on Goozex and provide their Wii system Friend Codes and add each other to the Address Book on their consoles.
  5. Once they have added the other person to their Wii Address Book, both buyer and seller should PM each other again to let each other know that they are ready.
  6. The Seller should follow the guide (see below) to purchase a "Gift" and select the buyer as the Wii Friend to send the gift to. The seller should enter "Goozex Trade from {user}" in the message that goes along with the Gift (replacing {user} with their Goozex username). Finally, the seller should PM the buyer on Goozex and let them know that the game has been sent.
  7. The buyer should then receive a message on their Wii that they have a gift waiting. They should follow the guide (see below) to receive their gift. It is also a good idea to confirm that they received the game both when they accept the game on the Wii (it will prompt you to send a message to the Gift giver) and via PM on Goozex.
  8. Once they've received thegift on their Wii, the buyer should leave positive feedback on Goozex.
  9. That's it

If you have any problems while trading VC games or can't contact the buyer/seller in a trade, contact Goozex and they will assist you in any way they can. If you encounter problems with the actual Gift system or your Wii, contact Nintendo Customer Support.

What follows is Nintendo's official guide to sending and receiving Gifts on the Wii Shop Channel:

Send a Gift

Wii Shop items (such as Virtual Console games) can be sent to another Wii Console in your Address Book. The other person must be in the same country, and will be given the option to accept or decline the gift.

While in the Wii Shop Channel, locate the item you would like to send (such as a Virtual Console game) and select it.
Select "Gift," and then "OK."
Select the name of the Wii friend registered in your Address Book that you would like to send the item to, then enter a message and/or attach a Mii, if desired. Select "OK," then "Yes" to send the gift.
(If the recipient is unable to receive the gift for any reason, you will receive an error message and the gift will not be sent.)

The message "Gift-giving complete!" will appear. Select "OK" to return to the Wii Shop welcome screen.
To see images of this process, please click here to go to our overview information.

Receive a Gift

Wii Shop items (such as Virtual Console games) can be sent to you by Wii Friends that you have registered in your Address Book. The other person must be in the same country, and you will be given the option to accept or decline the gift. If you accept the gift, you will have 45 days to download the gift before it is returned.

If a gift is available, a message will appear when you enter the Wii Shop channel (before the Wii Shop Channel welcome screen), or if you have WiiConnect24 turned on, in your Wii Address Book. Select "OK" to view the game(s) that have been sent.
Select the desired game, then select "Receive" to accept the gift. If you have Parental Controls on, enter your PIN and select "OK" if prompted (the PIN is only required if Parental Controls are set and the game's rating is higher than the Parental Controls allow).
Select "OK," then select "Now" to download the game or "Later" if you wish to come back to the Wii Shop Channel at a later time to download the game.
(There is no time limit to when the game needs to be downloaded; the 45 day limit only applies up until the point where you select to receive the gift.)

A message screen will appear. Enter a message and/or attach a Mii, if desired. Select "OK" to send the message, then "OK" again to return to the Wii Shop welcome screen.

Decline ("Return") a Gift

Virtual Console games that are sent to you as a gift can be declined and the Wii Points will be returned to the sender.

If a gift is available, a message will appear when you enter the Wii Shop channel (before the Wii Shop Channel welcome screen), or if you have WiiConnect24 turned on, in your Wii Address Book. Select "OK" to view the game(s) that have been sent.
Select the game you wish to decline, then select "Return" to refuse the gift. Select "Yes" to confirm that you want to return it.
A message-entry screen will appear. Enter a message and/or attach a Mii, if you like. Select "OK" to send the message, then "OK" again to return to the Wii Shop welcome screen. The sender will receive the message and the Wii Points they used will be returned to their Wii Shop account.

Turn gift giving options on/off

You can select whether you wish to receive gifts from other Wii Consoles from the Wii Shop Channel settings menu.

Select "Go Shopping" from the Wii Shop Channel "Welcome" screen, then select "Settings."
Select the "Gift Settings" button, then select the "Don't Receive" button (appears if the settings are on) or "Receive" button (appears if the settings are off).

This is great, but I was wondering why the seller can't mail in a Wii-Points card with the amount on it?

I ask because the way that it's proposed here requires you to add each other on the Wii address book. What if you don't want to add strangers to your address book or be added on someone else's?

I don't mean to complain, but I'm just trying to figure out if this is the way I want to go.

Thanks.

\ Not sure if you can send those as a gift, you'd have to check it out before offering it.

Well, once the transaction is complete, you can delete that user's friend code and they will no longer be able to communicate with you on the Wii. You have to both have your codes entered to be able to send any messages.

Trading Wii Points is an option, but I believe it's something Goozex is looking into for actual trading themselves. You may see 1000 Wii Point Card as an option to request/offer at some point.

Not yet. There may be trading of subscription/point cards in the future but it's just games for now.

So this is basically like changing VC points to Goozex Points or vice versa. Nice work.

I know this is a dumb question, as I am very new to my WII System.  Do you have to hook up through the internet to have these games downloaded to the system? Once the system is set up with your instructions that is..Thank you

How does your computer log onto the internet?  The Wii has built-in wireless, so as long as you have a wireless router, you are virtually ready to go  Do you have a router of some sort?
