At what point did Sega affirmatively decide to ruin this franchise? They are actively trying to sell us garbage; like they've lost a bet or something. And this is the best of this generation?

I purchased this game at release with such high hopes and it turned out to be crap on a cracker. So sad.
People don't give the game a chance. Best Sonic game in years. A little slow for the first hour or two, but it really picks up once you learn the more advanced skills when Sonic levels up.

Shadow the Hedgehog and the new Sonic the Hedgehog were utter crap. I really did enjoy Secret Rings.

I believe you. That's kind of what I meant with my snarky comment earlier. Every game has someone (or lots of people) who like it. For example, I loved Assassin's Creed, which many gamers take great pains to denigrate. As far as Rings, the camera drove me batty and the bestiality love story was quite unsettling.
I'll give you the camera bit. It was a pain in the ass to go backwards. I don't think it's the best Sonic game(Sonic 3&K forever) but I feel it's a step in the right direction and I least enjoyed the time I spent with it. Which is more than I can say about Shadow and the demo for Sonic the Hedgehog
