I was huge into comics 2001-2007. Then I stopped (marriage, work, impending fatherhood, new interests). Last night for whatever reason I decided to read The Walking Dead again. I read the first 24 issues and was reminded of why I loved the artform so much. I just wanted to ask some other geeks what there favorite comics are and if there has been anything amazing that has come out in my 2 year absense.

It looks on tv to be so easy! Sure, I know it's a fast game, but most of the receivers will catch it no matter who throws it. Just get it close is what those guys will tell you. So why not me, Braincrusher? I'm no rookie. I played qb on my JV team and have a decent arm ask any of my former teammates. Give me a shot. I'll guide the raiders. Brain out.

I think Ive heard about these somewhere. How do I get comics onto the PSP or are tehre any psp compatible comics already out? Im guessing there just a collection of psp sized jpegs? Anyone have any clue or know where they are available?

So, much as DC was acquired by WB before, Marvel Comics have been purchased for $4 Billion by Disney.

Think of all the Wolverine/Rescue Rangers, or Hulk/Duck Tales cross overs that can come of this.

Ironman vs. Gizmo Duck is a near guarantee.

The biggest news of the day is clearly Disney buying Marvel for four billion dollars. That's a whole mess of intellectual property that now falls under the mouse house shingle! Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, The Avengers... the list goes on and on, Marvel boasts a library of 5,000 characters (though of course you'd be hard pressed to name 50). The other complication is Marvel's distribution deal with Paramount. Will that go away after Thor and Iron Man 2?

My guess is they'll allow Marvel to operate much like Pixar (purchased for $7.4b in 2006) - largely free to do their own thing with film development. However, I can't see Disney betting that kind of money on the comic book industry too - that's a slow growth vehicle at best in this economy. Graphic Novel: Infinite Crisis/Identity Crisis HALP!

Hello, I just started getting back into graphic novels and picked up Infinite Crisis and Identity Crisis and was wondering if someone would be so cool (and smart) as to fill me in on the books (graphic novels plz, they are soooo much easier to track then normal comics) that I am missing. I am basically looking to just understand the whole story (I know i'm missing Crisis on Infinite Earths but that's about it) but even any side books to grab to kind of tie it together. I never read either so I don't even know if they are connected but I did a wiki search and they seem to be. So any info on books I should pick up to complete or even expand on the story line (I am not going to read them until I have enough of the books for it to make sense) it would be very much appreciated. And if someone could put them in the order I should read them, it would be even more appreciated. I got a lot of great read ideas from past threads for graphic novels worth reading (thanks to you guys) but I can't find out a clear cut answer anywhere on the Crisis books. Thanks in advance and if this was already a thread (I searched but couldn't find it in a previous thread) then the link to that would be just as helpful.

Do I (or someone you know) use (I don't) too many (too less?) brackets when typing [or anti-typing (think: whiteout)]?

The Joker: Hardcover Graphic Novel SPOILERS

I bought into the hype (IGN 9.8 review) and hell if it isn't just one of the most incomplete and confusing books I've ever read. X-Men step aside...there is a new no-makes-sense book in town.

***SPOILERS BELOW***

The Good:

I got it for $11 instead of $20
The focus on the Joker and his thinking is nice idea....in theory...
Some cool deaths...I guess (but how exactly do you skin a man in a few minutes backstage at a stripper club?)
Keeps in line with the real world perspective that Nolan uses (nice touch on Croc and Penguin)

The Bad:

No explanation of anything!!! How did Joker get out? What was in the suit case? Why did TwoFace want him out? Was the Joker upper hand on TwoFace adultry pics? If so, wtf?? Why wasn't Batman all over the Joker the second he left prison?
A few frames of Penguin and Riddler are not enough...what exactly are their roles...what are their criminal "powers," need more info please!
Batman shows up in the end...only for the book to finish before the fight...
Bottom line: way too many loose ends and incomplete connections

The Ugly:

The Joker is a cry baby that needs cuddling?? WTF??
The very light exploration of Joker's thinking...blah
Timeline seems to be post Dark Knight, but not really b/c TwoFace is in it. The Joker is drawn like the one from DK film (cut smile). What universe am I in exactly?
Jonny Frost...you're the Joker's driver...by default you should be a crazy dude...but no, you're a divorced father that hasn't grown a sack yet...

What are some of your favorite manga?

I enjoy:

Lone Wolf and Cub - Long but brilliant. The art is stunning in a stripped-down no-frills way. The writing and story are beautiful and brutal.

Akira - Much better than the anime, primarily because the anime doesn't take its time the way the books do. Still plenty of action and complete and utter insanity, mind you.

Planetes - Closest thing to golden-age sci-fi in manga form. Also, really good characterization. I'm sad this ended.

Death Note - Struggling to find something to say for some reason.

Hikaru no Go - Just fun, especially if you like Go.

Please add descriptions, even if they're not long (and hopefully better than my Death Note one :)

kirkman has constantly promised a huge change in the series at the fifty issue mark. and as much as he likes to hang twists and set ups at the endings of each issue i am feeling pretty certain that rick's death wasnt a fake out and what he meant by huge change was that carl would be becoming the new central character and focus of the story. at first i hated the idea. but the more i think about it the more i start to like it. what do you think?

So I'm not really into comics/graphic novels anymore, but I used to read Y:the last man pretty religiously (when I thought that I would get back into them). I fell out of going to the local comic shop, and I never was able to catch up. Without providing any spoilers, has anyone read the entire series...and if so, is it worth going back and reading the entire series? Was it worth it? Was there a good payoff?

With the comic officially out now and the crossover comics now started. Has anyone been impressed yet with the direction this story arc is going? I was wondering if this is Marvels way of fixing up broken storylines through out there universe (*cough Spiderman)?

After Civil War and World War Hulk I am curious to see how well they can match or come close to being as good as those story lines.
