Video Game Music!

A lot of games have truly awesome music. Especially the old games with their 8-bit music. I mean, everyone knows the Mario theme, and everyone else knows the Tetris theme, too!

But even if the old video game music has the catchiest little loops (I'm looking at you, Legend of Zelda...), newer games have really taken orchestral music to a new level. Perhaps, it's the "classical" style music for our era. These songs aren't usually quite as catchy or as simple to learn as their 8-bit counterparts, but many of them are truly beautiful works!

My own personal favorites are the Eternal Sonata sound track. The composer used Chopin's music and built off of it, really well, I feel.
Another favorite is the sound track for Zelda: Wind Waker. Most Zelda games are pretty fantastic, musically, but I felt that Wind Waker was just a step above.

Another thing that I think is fun is listening to fan interpretations. For example, at http://ocremix.org/ fans take those old 8-bit tracks and mix them into their own music to modernize it. There's a lot of cool stuff there.

The "Paul Is Dead" Conspiracy

I've been playing a ton of RB: Beatles lately, and last night, I decided to look up some things about the Beatles. Eventually, I came across the whole "Paul McCartney is dead, and he has a replacement" conspiracy theory. After reading/hearing everything I could find about it, I came to this conclusion: Either Paul really is dead, or the Beatles made the coolest mystery I've ever seen. What's your take on all this? You got to admit, some of the evidence is quite peculiar.

This topic isn't meant to start a flame war; I've just been thinking lately about the future of music. These days, there are college classes dedicated to Beethoven, Bach....what's called "classical" music. While it's not on the Top 40 or anything these days, that music has had lasting power, and has easily stood the test of time. Even if one hates classical, they can usually appreciate the work that went behind making such music. And centuries from now, they will probably still be having those classes, studying such music.

What about the current generation of music? Even any back to the time that even the oldest person on the forum was young? Is there anything out there that will stand the test of time? It just popped into my head that I doubt we will ever have "Britney 101" or cultural dissertations on the terminology of the word "fergilicious". I think in today's fast-paced society, it's getting hard to find what music that will truly stand the test of time.

I'm not asking your favorite band....I'm asking in like 600 years, will anyone be listening to anything by any artist of any recent generation? Or will it all be lost to the winds? Do you think there are any current artists that will have "epic" music that will land in classical territory? And what do you think five generations from now will be saying about our music culture?

I'm into hip hop a bit. But sometimes I get into R&B a bit too. I was a big fan of Another Bad Creation, which got me going in the genre. So the other day, I am flipping channels and came across this song called "Milkshake". Now, mind you I am not oblivious to the subliminal message here. She is clearly making the boys jealous because she serves awesome milkshakes at her parent's ice cream parlour. But that's neither here nor there: what's important is this song bumps! Catchy beat, lyrics that are shocking, yet fit together like a puzzle; this song has it all. And Kellis? Boy is she a sight for sore eyes or what! Overall a 9 out of 10

i'm talking about the stupid rapper bs that has ruined the name drake. my name happens to be drake and now i feel much shame for having it. how is it that rap thrives even though it is terrible? no one in rap/hiphop(same thing) has any talent whatsoever and they "sing" about the stupidest shit. so i guess this thread is about hatred of the genre. i mean why cant something that requires effort and talent be popular again?
