Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

So...who's idea was it not to inform me that this movie is in theaters....having released on the 30th of October?! You guys know I <3 this movie.

I believe I'm making plans to see this tonight. Tomorrow the latest.

Unfortunately, my 2 local theaters aren't playing it, so I'll have to drive 15-20mi to the next town to see it, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Anyone see it? Anyone else surprised to hear of this? Anyone?!

Sup dudes,

So I requested a full package for the Dark Knight (Gift Box) that includes that nifty Batpod souvenir. I noticed there was only one person who was giving the full package out at the time so I immediately jumped onto it.

Well, apparently the guy wasn't ready to send it out so he left the time limit go down to zero. Oddly after, I was matched with someone else after. I was pretty happy.

As I'm currently waiting for it to show up on my door, JUST LAST NIGHT, I noticed in my request queue for the Gift Box, it has me down for DISC ONLY? Wtf?? I never requested that. In fact, the page I go to view the Dark Knight (Gift Box) has me down for "Full package". I uploaded an image to show this, grab.by/HrD As you can see, "Full Package" is highlighted and it's currently in my requests.

This is what I'm seeing in my current request queue: grab.by/HrG I .. never .. requested "Disc Only". In fact, this makes me upset because "Disc Only" means that I'm getting the regular Blu-ray disc that comes in ANY OTHER Dark Knight Blu-ray package. He's actually getting MORE points for this for no apparent reason, which is almost like tricking the system.

Sure, I should have paid more attention to my request before hand but I didn't expect the Goozex system to switch my decision from "Full Package" to "Disc Only". What a trick! Currently, the package I'm supposed to receive is coming my way shortly but I have asked for it to be cancelled and I would be willing to ship the disc back.

How did something like that happen?

CURRENT MOVIE: Surf II

IT'S NOT TOO LATE! ANYONE CAN JOIN!

Welcome to the Goozex Film Club!

How it works:

1. Every week, a different user has to pick a movie for the club to watch, following specific guidelines (For example: Best Picture Winner, The 70's, Based on a Novel, etc. etc.).

2. You acquire the movie and watch it within the week.

3. At the end of the week, you and your fellow Goozex film club members discuss the movie.

4. A new movie is picked and the cycle repeats.

Some notes...

1. If you've seen the movie already, you don't have to watch it again. Having already seen it, you can still discuss it if you'd like.

2. If for whatever reason you can't participate, no worries. I can't force you to watch a movie. Also, there's nothing wrong with watching the movie a little later than you're supposed to.

Anyway, this is going to be a place where we could discuss the movies I watch and review and stuff. It's pretty self explanatory.

The first review is going to be of Porky's (1981), which I'm going to go watch soon.

Warner Bros swapping Blu-Rays for DVD's - for a price

In the spirit of such programs as Cash for Guns and, more recently, Cash for Clunkers, Warner Bros. has begun its "DVD2BLU" program, offering owners of its films in the antiquated DVD (a.k.a. drink coaster) format to exchange them for their proper Blu-ray Disc equivalents for a charge of $7.95 to $9.95 per film. The program's site currently lists 50 titles, with a limit of 25 disc swaps per household.

Interesting. This could potentially create a market for some of these DVD's here at Goozex I would guess.

So i've been getting a constant stream of blu ray movies from netflix and switchplanet. I also got a roku box for christmas. I've cut almost all my tv watching except for TUF and 24 to allow for more movies.

Last night I saw the spiderwick chronicles. Great looking movie. Main kid is annoying and needs to die but overall I would say 3/5 stars. Some scenes really made good use of the cleaner visuals in blu ray tech.

After that I finally finished up my instant watch of ninja scrolls. I've heard it was bloody but didn't find it over the top to other's I've seen. The whole storyline with everyone wanting to r*pe this one chick is kind of disturbing.I found this movie to be similar to Shinobi - Heart under blade. Both good movies.

Here are just a few questions to frame the discussion, and I'll appreciate if you can share some your thoughts on the service, both on the "pros" and the "cons". For example:

- What do you like most?

- If you are not using the service, why is that?

- Is there one single change that you would see addressed to make you change your mind?

Can't offer movie

OK, I give up. Going in circles now.

Recently joined so I don't have any points.Trying to offer a movie to possibly get some points. Put in the UPS and movie shows up. Click on "Have it" and a dialog box comes up. There is where things go downhill.

According to instructions, a button called "Add to my offers" is supposed to show up - it doesn't. I click FULL PACKAGE but nothing really happens so I end up clicking close window and movie is not on my list.

Can someone tell me how to add a movie, please? Thx.

An idea I have that will probably get made fun of but I'm going to post it anyway

I've been doing this on another forum and so far it's been pretty fun. Plus, with all the movie trade things happening right now, I thought this would be the perfect time to introduce...

The Goozex Film Club!

How it works:

Seeing as many members have their own review threads on movies geared to different genres, quality or just overall thoughts, I have decided to post my own reviews on Asian Cinema and Anime. I have been watching both since the mid '90s and would love to share my opinions and thoughts on what other Goozex users should watch or stay away from. I will rate movies on a scale of 1 - 10.

I hope these reviews will help people find movies or series that they may not know about, and at times warn them about others they may want to skip entirely. To kick this thread off I will start with one of the best movies in Asian Cinema.

Oldboy

Oldboy is the second film in director Park Chan-wook's revenge trilogy, none of which are related to eachother in story. This movie is about Oh Dae-Su, who is kidnapped and held captive for 15 years before being released suddenly. Oh Dae-Su is then focused on exacting revenge against those who held him captive. He meets a young girl named Mi-Do, a young sushi chef, who helps him out along his path of vengeance. As more and more secrets unravel and he is mocked by the man who was his captor, he is now tasked with finding the reason as to why he was held captive.

Oldboy is a movie filled with violence, tremendous plot twists, brilliant acting and and incredible story. It also features one of the best fight scenes featuring a hammer, a hallway and one guy versus many. Choi Min-Sik is in his finest form playing Oh Dae-Su in this film, and showcases why he is one of Korea's best actors. He even eats a live squid to make a scene in the film as genuine as possible. This is a movie everyone should see, even for those who don't like subtitled film. Oldboy is in my opinion the biggest gem in Korean Cinema, and would stand amongst even the best films from Hollywood.

Rating: 10 out of 10 Hammers

Having just -250'ed a bootleg anime DVD set I received, I thought it'd be a good idea to inform everyone considering trading anime DVDs of a couple of things:

- A lot of anime dvds you can pick up new from mom and pop video game and toy stores are, in fact, bootleg. Make sure to compare the UPC on the box to the one in the Muse database before putting it up for offer on Goozex.

- Ditto eBay and Amazon Marketplace. Bootleg anime runs rampant here.

- The following companies are known bootleggers: "Animation Video," "Anime Cartoon/Manga International" (not to be confused with Manga Entertainment), "Fx" and "Anime Studio." If the DVD set you have has any of these company logos on the spine or where the actual company logo (Viz, Funimation, etc) should be, IT IS A BOOTLEG.

So I have a copy that I picked up from a friend. I don't know where he got it, but, it's not listed anywhere on Goozex. They have the 2-Disc set, which this isn't. I was first in line to trade that out and when I activated it today, I took the copy off the shelf to check it to make sure it was all ready and I noticed that it's not the same.

This is a single disc copy of the movie. The barcode on the back says "Not for sale, for promotional use only", so I assume it must have been bundled with something at some point.

Trading advice? Should I list as disc only on the 2-disc set?

Too many duplicate movie entries

Why are there so many entries for the same movie?

There are Checkpoint releases, Movie Cash releases, Canadian releases, etc. etc. All for the exact same disc, just different packaging. Even if you're offering or requesting something disc-only, you still have two or three different listings to choose from. And the point values aren't even consistent between entries!

Note that I'm NOT talking about movies with special editions and regular editions, or movies that have had legitimate re-releases several years down the road with different extras/features/etc. Those are legitimately different products. (e.g. a lot of DVDs have a late-90s release that is non-anamorphic, and a mid-2000's release that IS anamorphic, and there's a huge difference there if you have a 16:9 TV.)

Whenever I request or offer a movie, I have to make multiple entries in my Requests/Offers queue to make sure that I don't lose my place in line.

This isn't a site for hardcore collectors; nobody is going to care whether they get a Canadian packaging or Movie Cash in the box or whatever. These entries should all be collapsed into one.

(In a perfect world, I'd also like a way to request "any edition of this DVD" as one entry in your list, to avoid accidentally matching on two different copies of the same movie at once. But that's probably more work for less benefit.)

Come on, I need some Lupin the 3rd.

Looking at alot of em'. Most of them have none up for offers. Why even have them posted? Is there a way to only show movies that are able to purchase? Or can someone direct me to a few that i can get?

So I'm home sick today watching movies and the like. I have watched several bad ones. Which got me thinking, what movie/TV show was the worst you've ever seen? Or which one made you the angriest? Why did it infuriate you so?

I'll start it off with one I just finished:

Matrix Revolutions

Never have I been more confused in a movie. Plus there were not enough fight scenes in it to keep me awake.

I just finished the movie about 5 minutes ago. This film not only deeply disturbed me, but mystified me in a way no movie has. The acting, the music, the story, the direction...I could go on. This movie rocked my definition of how powerful film-making can be. Needless to say, after watching this film, I will never do heroin in my life, ha. For those of you that had a chance to see this, please leave your comments and opinions.

rental vs retail

A lot of my time is spent purchasing DVD so I have notices that some companies are starting to sell rental versions and retail editions of DVD's. Rental editions come out about 30 days before the retail. They may take off any special features of the rental versions soon as well. Will both of these editions be on goozex?
