I'd like to start this off with my own personal review.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is hailed by many as the greatest entry in the series to date. Like its predecessors, it retains the classic tried and true game play that we have come to know and love.
But it brings some new elements to the table. For instance, the game is more free roaming, like the NES game Metroid, instead of level based. A map on the menu screen keeps track of your progress.
RPG elements have been added. Alucard, the character you play as, can gain levels by defeating the many enemies in Castlevania. He can also equip various accessories, armor, head gear, cloaks, shields, and weapons. New spells and familiars can also be obtained along the way.
The visuals are very nice and detailed. The stage areas are large and full of life. If you are playing this on a Playstation 2, you can apply the texture filter, located in the browser menu before loading up the game, to smooth out the rough edges.
The music and sound effects are very loud and crisp. The soundtrack is composed of many varieties of songs ranging from rock, dance, jazz, atmospheric, and goth tracks. The voice acting is shoddy in some places but overall I found it to be pretty good.
I'm not going to spoil the story for anyone who has not played this yet, but I will tell you that the game can range between 10 hours and up for someone just getting into it for the first time. There are many secrets and treasures to collect and multiple endings that you can obtain. You can also play as another character once you beat the game. These really add to the replay value.
Unlike the earlier titles, the level of difficulty is not high. There probably won't be very many instances where a player will have problems. I'd highly recommend this title to anyone that is a Castlevania fan or is a fan of 2d side scrolling action adventure titles.
That being said, I'd rate this game 9/10.
I would just like to add that there are now multiple means of playing or owning this game. The original PS version, the XBLA version with achievements, and the new upcoming Dracula X Collection on PSP. I'm looking forward to owning each and every version of one of my favorite games of all-time.

Yes, I noticed that it is downloaded on PSN. I'd love to hear how it is. Any reviews would be appreciated. I didn't really like the 360 XBLA version.
All I've heard of the PSN release is that it's around 400 megs and isn't compressed like the 360 version. Since there's no disc, they probably just got rid of all those dummy files.
I guess this means it's an exact copy of the original with everything intact.
