I agree. And, although it's a little off-topic, I hate, Hate, HATE being forced to sit through 30 minutes of commercials at the theater before a movie starts. I paid my $10 to see the movie. So why am I being made to sit through commercials? In my opinion, if I have to watch 30 minutes of ads that I can't fast forward through, the movie should be free.

I completely agree, with all the blatant commercials in games and before movies we should be given a break, another thing that kills me is the product placement. It really drives me a bit batty.  

off topic again.... but you know what i really HATE? i HATE paying ten bucks to see a movie in the theatre and having to sit through like five of those commercials telling me not to steal movies off of the internet after i PAID TEN BUCKS FOR A TICKET! those commercials make me want to steal those movies just so i wont have to hear that sad stuntman whine about how internet pirates are ruining his living.

I just finished listening to the GS "HotSpot" podcast, where they address this controversy. It was pretty obvious that the remaining editors are furious at corporate for the way the firing went and how the withholding of information made everybody look bad.

However, just when I started thinking, "Ok, they have some valid points. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought," Alex Navarro was cut off in mid-sentence while talking about some potentially touchy subject matter. Instead, the host of the podcast interrupted him and began spewing some corporate line about how all of this will ensure GS is the most trustworthy review site on the web.

If you're a GS veteran or have any interest in this issue, I highly recommend listening to the first half of this week's HotSpot.

 

I would also like to recommend this week's hotspot podcast.  They talk personally about the firing and about their journalistic integrity.  Two points to pay attention to are that they say they were most disappointed in the way the firing was handled, and less about the actual firing.  Secondly,  the repeatidly say that this one review was not the sole cause, rather there was a perfect storm of events.  You can never be sure, but they sound pretty genuine.  "Eidos pushes for Gerrtsman firing," is a sexy headline, but I still belive that there is more to the situation than we know now or will ever know. 

Maybe this was a situation similar to ESPN's non-dealing and dealing with Mike Tirico and Harold Reynolds....lol.  I can't help myself.  Could you imagine Jeff G. getting fresh with anyone?

Maybe it's just me but a lot of these sites seem to be handing out favourable reviews for games that have a lot of issues and flaws that they used to nail games on a long time ago (maybe not so long ago, 2-3 years).

Yep, I'm resurrecting an old thread. Why? Because it has just come to my attention that Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis are launching their own video game site this summer, called Giant Bomb. I've been watching the How to Build a Bomb behind-the-scenes videos and they're pretty interesting.

Good to see the people I trusted from GameSpot back in action.
