Atlus has done it again. Their 2D animation and sprite artists are truly some of the best and with this game comes great story and characters, vibrant settings, and action-packed battles that always manage to seem fresh and exciting. The game has circular maps for all of its stages so you can go left or right and you always will end up where you started. This makes it easy to navigate battles and gives you some decisions on how you would like to attack your foes. You will earn tons of powerups and new special abilities as you level up (RPG style) but all the battles take place in real-time as a sort of action-RPG/Fighting game matchup. It's easily one of the best games on the PS2 and by far one of the most beautiful 2D games of all time. The game also features the option to play in the original Japanese language with English subtitles or the English Dub (which is surprisingly good, though I'm a purist at heart). I can't recommend this game enough :)Lots of great action and tons of replay value. What are you waiting for? ^_^
By far the prettiest game that I have ever played, hands down. I can't say enough how great the graphics were. The voice overs were all right, could have done better with some of them but all in all they were good for the game. The real PROBLEM is the repetativeness within the game, going through areas from different directions, things don't change much, etc. I know this is a part of a larger story, but the grind can get to you if you let it. The other issue I had was towards the end of the first chapter and the serious bogging down of the game in general. Too many pretty things on the screen made my PS2 (and later my PS3) very unhappy.
If you don't have it, get it. If you can put up with some of the issues I stated above, you won't be disappointed in the slightest.
One boss pissed me off enough to make me want to stop playing the game and trade it off on oozex.
Atlus isn't the one who did it again. Atlus is a publishing company moreso than anything else, and many of the games they bring to America aren't theirs. Vanillaware made Odin Sphere. If you want more of their work, get Grim Grimoire

True, they didn't make the game but without them, Americans would have never seen the game. Vanillaware makes a pretty game, but they wouldn't be able to bring it stateside. So, technically, we can thanks Atlus for taking a chance and bringing this over, much like they did with Disgaea and the Tactic Ogre/Ogre Battle series (Nippon Ichi and an abandoned Enix project, respectively).
So thank you Vanillaware and Atlus :) Both great companies ^_^ Sorry for the mistake in my posting.

I played for a tiny bit with the English VAs, before going to the Japanese. Might be a bit more difficult for people to adjust though if they're not used to Japanese voices, I watch some subtitled anime so I'm used to it. I've made it through the first book and then took a break, but I expect to get back into it soon. I can't add much more, except you MUST play this amazing and beautifuly game.
