I wish that there would be a complete separation between Church and State. It really sucks that candidates basically have to prove they are good, Christian, God-fearing church-going people in order to even be considered for the Presidency. Remember when they were saying Obama was a Muslim (even though he isn't) as if it was a bad thing? And then you have people like Bush saying that God is talking to him and Palin saying that we are on a mission from God in Iraq. When religious beliefs affect the way you govern, there is a problem.

Religious beliefes are going to affect the way you govern regardless of if you are a Christian, Muslim, Jew, or whatever you may be (including Aethiest or Agnostic). It may not be conscious all the time, but your religion impacts your worldview and thus impact what you deem important and just.
America is a nation made primarily of people who profess to be some form of "Christian", so it would only make sense that our leader would be as well, because they would share other similar beliefs. Does it mean a Muslim or an Aethiest could not be a great President? I don't think so, but it would just be hard to convince people that when they see someone who has beliefs like theirs as the other option.
And that sucks because this country (and the world which becomes smaller and smaller every day) is made up of so many different religions. In a perfect world the people in charge would practice their religion in private and not use it to govern or for political gain. For example, I think it's wrong when politicians try to ban gay marriage, something that does not hurt anybody at all, because it goes against their moral beliefs. The fact that it's effective as a political platform is a sad thing.
I'm undecided right now
where would be the best place to get all the major issues for both sides? CNN?
I'm leaning towards Mccain as I too feel a bit uneasy about Obama. I would rather have taken Mr./Mrs Clinton as she has balls.

The primary religion, as most people profess, is Christianity. It only makes sense that if you are supposed to be a representative (which I am sure most politicians have forgotten that is their primary job) of the people, that you would follow the belief system of your people.
Specifically on the gay marriage thing, it may not hurt anybody, but if the majority of people are against it (I don't know if they are, but I would assume so based on Christianity being the major religion in the country) then as a representative of the people, the President should listen instead of forcing their belief that gay marriage is right onto people. It can be taken both ways.
But what is supposed to be great about this country is its diversity. Essentially when someone says "I'm a Christian and I will govern based on my beliefs, vote for me," they are saying that Christianity is the best religion and all others are beneath it. Instead, why not preach tolerance?

Since when has religion actually preached tolerance?
I think it's understood that you believe your religion is always the best. Otherwise you would chose another.
Tolerence doesn't get elected. Saying the right things, even if you don't believe it, gets you elected. That's why I hate politicians.

Exactly.

Pastafarianism is the prime example of why this is not always true. People who actually claim to follow it (given, this is usually with a tinge of sarcasm with the sole intent of forcing schools to teach it alongside Judaism and its offspring) do so because they know it is probably not correct.

I haven't found a place. CNN has become just as bad as Fox News, which is dangerous because more people actually trust it.

I told somebody a couple of days ago, if you're not going to pay attention then don't pay attention. There's too much crap and too many lies coming from all directions, and it's hard enough knowing what to believe when you really are paying attention. Unfortunately if you're not willing to commit the time to understanding what's going on, you're probably going to get the wrong information.
This is why I really don't like threads of this nature on forums completely unrelated to the topic. It is quickly devolving into a discussion about the evils of religion and is getting perilously close to breaching the ToS of the Goozex forums.
Just a quick reminder to walk that fine line and keep it friendly and within the bounds of the ToS.

I have not read any personal attacks yet, timpy. Hopefully they do not appear.

Really, they have Republican bias as well? They echo stuff said on MRC.org as fact?
