I did a couple searches for this topic but couldn't find anything. It's a pretty simple suggestion, for those mathematically disinclined: have a simple point calculator on the sidebar of Goozex to see how much a game's points value is worth in dollars/cents/sheep. If anyone belongs to Switchplanet, I'd just ape their idea for a conversion calculator:

It can be as useful as it could be fun. If I were programmaticly skilled I'd tackle the idea myself, but that just isn't my thing unfortunately. This certainly isn't a necessary thing, but I've hurt my brain on more than one occasion trying to mind-muscle out what 650 points is in dollars.

$5 = 100 points... how hard is that to add up?

Still ... it isn't a terrible thought - a sort of 'how much is my game worth' sort of thing.  Some of us think in numbers, others would actually benefit by 'monetizing' the point amount.

Hey, I didn't say it was hard. However, mathematically disinclined = helpful calculator. That's all.

Plus, while $5 may equal 100 points, what about 50 points? Quick, what's 750 Goozex points in dollars? If you're blessed with a computer-like brain, good for you. I think a calculator would help the rest of us.

garunteed, i know my problem is i always think in points, hence why i dont like trading 100pt games, when in reality $5 for a game that at trade in would get me $0.50 is definitely worth it

Do yourself a favor and TRY and do it in your head. It isn't that hard. Really. You are working with whole numbers. It is not that I have a superior math skills. Just like everything else, practice. This really only requires very basic math skills.

Respectfully, this would be a good idea if this conversion were even remotely hard to do.  I hate to jump on the opinion bandwagon, but this is simple math.  Someone who is eight should be able to do this with ease.

Geez, I'm really getting read the riot act for this one. I've been a member of Goozex for over a year, I HAVE tried to do it in my head. And yes, I can do it, but that's not the point of the calculator. If that's the way it came across (as a need) than I explained it poorly. It would just be something nice to have to make the conversions easier, and like someone explained up above, give monetary precedence to the point system. In fact, I like that idea better. Forget the mathematics.

Yikes, I forgot that the anonymity of the Internet makes everyone smarter than you. A simple suggestion in a suggestion forum suddenly makes me dumber than an eight year old. (So what's that...not as smart as a third grader? Hmm...where's my conversion calculator for a child's age to grade level...)

Until someone does come out with this, if you really want an easy way to do this, you can use a conversion calculator being that 20 grains equal 1 scruple

In this instance, think of grains as points and scruples as cash

http://www.victoriapacking.com/mass_conversion.html

Field 1, enter "points"; make field 2 grains; make field 3 scruples and when you click the convert button, you will get the monetary amount of said points

I love how people tear this apart. With all the threads made by the idiots who can't read Goozex rules or couldn't spell "feedback" to save their lives, I think this calculator would be very helpful. Take a chill pill guys

It isn't just the anonymity factor, it is also that hardcore gamers seem to comply to the stereotypical 'geek' in terms of both attributes (+10 to math, -15 to social skills Big Smile ) and attitudes.

I have had my 'mathitude' tempered by twenty years of marriage to a non-math person ... you really see things differently when numbers don't just ooze out of your head.

So don't take it hard ...

You know what, I apologize.  Reading my post now, it comes across as mean-spirited.  I suppose this caculator could save time if we were talking about converting large amounts of points into currency terms.  I'm not a "math wizz" by any means, but I could probably calculate the dollar value of any amount of points below 1000 faster than I could punch them into a calculator - which is why I found the idea of using a calculator silly. I wasn't really trying to compare your intelligence to that of an eight year old.  I was running more along the lines that if you're older than eight, you've graduated from basic addition and subtraction, and are moving swiftly on to multiplication and division.  So yes, I think I was trying to say that third grade math skills should be a sufficient tool for this problem.

I think third grade is around 8-9 years old, but feel free to prove me wrong and make me look stupid.Wink

I'm not really feeling like installing .NET on this machine and I'm not familiar with python, so let me suggest an O/S solution:

If you run windows, you can start the calculator program by:

windows key + r, then type in the box: calc, press enter.

Points divided by 20 = $

Quick switch between windows (your browser and calculator):  Hold alt, press tab

Hope this helps.

They can't do simple math and you expect that to work?
