Does anyone know of a site where I might find a new or "like new" copy of Vagrant Story for the PS1?  I want it to load to my psp but the copies I'm finding here are generally pretty beat up.  This is what I get for trading my copy to Gamestop way back when.

Wow? Someone else who actually uses their CFW for something other than illegally downloading games. Sweet.

My suggestion would be to post Vagrant Story on the goozex point suggestions thread as it looks like it will never get through 60 people.

what you are talking about doing is considered piracy; might want to edit your post

No, I'm pretty sure converting PS1 to PSP isn't illegal and it's definately not pirating if you own the PS1 game. There is that small possibility I'm wrong though. Devil

As far as I know you're allowed to have backups of your games.

Doesn't PS3 let you do that anyway?

I believe I'm safe.  I back up my PS1 games to play on the go.  I'm also a collector and like my PS1 titles as close to new as possible.

If you cannot do it using an 'off the shelf' PSP then you have broken your Sony warranty and are engaging in acts that Sony considers to be a violation of the EULA that you accept when playing games and using their systems.

That said, I still consider this a gray area ... so I won't kill the thread.

Are you saying that the copies you are finding used here are not suitable for playing?

Im aware that it's technically not illegal; i was talking about the "custom firmwares" really; not all mods would have seen it like txa however

I am very strongly anti-piracy, and therefore this whole thread makes me unconfortable.  Other forums have been more direct on this:

Any discussion about Downgraders, Non PS1 emulation, ROMs, Custom Firmware and homebrew can lead to a moderation with a suspension or the possibility of permanent ban.

So I am counting on the integrity of the members to keep this in check.  If this starts to expand or turn into a discussion of the legal intricacies of the subject in a 'I'm not doing anything wrong' context (if someone wants a 'ethics, morality, and legality of piracy' thread that is a different matter) ... I will break out a can of smack-down pretty quickly.

Try joining GameTZ.com.  You do trades directly with individuals.  You might find someone on there you can get the game from.

As far as the legality of this, it's a grey area. PS1 games don't have any DRM that I'm aware of, but since it requires a bypassing of the DRM on the PSP to run them, it's still a legal grey area. As txa said, pretty much.

Since Sony doesn't explicitly allow it to be done with their firmware, it's not something that should be discussed here.

Taking from Nintendo's legal history, they tightly control the context as well as the content - in other words, while not denying you the right to backup a N64 game to play on an N64, backing it up to play on a N64 PC emulator is a change of context that is denying then the right to publish that game on that platform.  They (big N) have won legal battles with this argument in the past.

also for a fun fact twisted metal 3 for the ps1 would play the music of the game on a cd player.
