CoffinDancer:
Any specific suggestions that have gotten your wife onboard?

My wife is a non-gamer, always has been and always will be.  Her history is a bit of Ms. Pac Man at the arcades in college in the early 80's.  She has no interest in any of my PC games - except for the occasional point & click adventure.  She has little patience for handhelds, but likes Cooking Mama and has played some Puzzle Quest.  She likes the Wii andhas fun with several of the game there from Wii Sports to Carnival Games to Guitar Heo III and so on.  But no shooters or RPG's (which, of course, are my two fave genres).

But the biggest thing: she will *never* just go and pick up a game and play herself.  It is all about the social aspects.

First of all, congrats on the marriage!  I just passed my two year anniversary and I'm happy to report we're still in love and I'm still a video game addict.

CoffinDancer:

Congrats! I'm getting married in a month myself.  My bride to be is realizing that she won't be able to totally kick my gaming habit so she might as well try to join me.  She tried Halo and Rock Band a few weeks ago, but wasn't interested.

Any specific suggestions that have gotten your wife onboard?

Well, as the woman who is currently listening to the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack, I may not be all that up on what the average, non-gamer lady digs these days.  But puzzle games are often a good bet.  I know back when I was in college, everyone and our moms (literally) liked Bust-A-Move.  If you have a DS, you should be pretty well set for games like this, but most systems have at least one or two games like this, particularly from their respective online stores.  Katamari Damacy seems to have a lot of wide appeal as well.  Think casual, easy controls, preferably two player so you can play together.  She may just not be into video games, which is fine.  Just appreciate it if she's tolerant of your gaming habit and reciprocate when she's in to things you may not quite understand.

I was a gamer before I met my husband so I don't have any personal experiences to share with you.  Though he did derail my brief attempt to let the PlayStation generation pass me by when he got me a PSX and the aforementioned FFVII for Christmas.  That was the end of that idea.

My wife does some wii fit and rockband guitar but that's it.

The key is to have 2 tvs, and a DVR. save a ton of stuff she likes to watch then you will get your game time. ;)

I got my wife hooked with Kingdom Hearts Big Smile, try some good RPGs or platformers.  She also just bought me Rock Band for my birthday which is a fun game to play together.

I apologize for the above post. cheeznrice is not married, but actually referring to his pet bulldog. We have tried getting him counseling, to no avail. Pray to the god of your choice for his soul.

Congratulations on your marriage though, you have 15 years to catch up to me Big Smile

Kingdom hearts is a great idea. It's a solid game and the Disney characters make it relatable. Try Super Monkey Ball or a good co-op game that's not too violent.

firenextdoor, what does your response have to do with cheeznrice's pet bulldog wife? Will playing Disney games magically turn her into a human? Stick out tongue

You have obviously not spent enough time at Disney with kids if you even have to ask ...

We should probably tone this down. The last time cheez mentioned his bulldog in these forums, the breeder sent him a death threat.
