As the line from Real Genius says ... "coming?  It isn't even breathing hard!"

Great obscure reference!

I think Microsoft cut the prices of the 360 on Friday

I was on the fence for a long time and recently decided to go for a PS3. Here's why:

  • Online gaming is free on the PS3. You have to pay for online gaming on the 360.
  • It comes with wifi. You have to purchase wifi for extra on the 360.
  • It has a blu-ray player, so it's built for the future. Blu-ray = more space for bigger and better games
  • Many companies are starting to learn to develop for the PS3, so the multiconsole games don't suck on PS3 anymore. (Bad PS3 games was one reason why I considered buying a 360 at first.)
  • I don't really trust Microsoft. After all, they abandoned the original Xbox after a measley 3 years and followed that up with rushing the 360 to market even though they knew that it was initially poorly designed and suffered from overheating.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a PS3 fanboy and, as I mentioned, I seriously considered both systems for a LONG time. Sony has it's problems too, and if it hadn't decided to dump BC, I would have gotten a PS3 a lot sooner.

I ended up buying a 60 gb PS3 with BC off of Ebay because it was THAT important to me. If I couldn't have found one, I don't think I would have bought either system right now. I liked that the 360 had games NOW, but after paying for wifi and live, I would have come close to the PS3 price already and not had the security that I was looking for (see points 3 and 5).

Either way, you'll probably be happy with what you bought.

My opinion on your opinions:

Most of your points are valid, but as a long time XBL subscriber, I hardly think $4 a month for a vastly superior online service is hardly a reason not to buy one system over the other.

A few of your points have been debated over and over for the past two years now with very little fact ever coming to light, as far as developers both having trouble with or getting used to developing for the PS3. And the the whole "wait and see" attitude has been beaten more than a rented mule. Like I said below, if "Built for the future" means its going to have "10 year" legs, they can keep.

Comparing systems in the first place seldom goes to good places in the forusm. Its really a matter of preference, the smartest move would be to check out the game libraries for both systems, present and future, then chose which ever suites your liking more.

Nailed my thoughts exactly. People that complain about Live being a pay subscription have not used both systems online, or they would know that the $4 a month is well worth it.

I've had both services and I prefer the PS3's free service over 360's pay service. I don't really have anything else to add except that. I'm not one to nitpick over "this or that", PSN is free and I have no problems with it whatsoever. I wouldn't even have a 360 if it weren't for a few titles that I really wanted to play, IE: Culdcept Saga and Lost Odyssey.

I noticed that those titles are single player games. also something nobody has brought up yet, if you get at least the pro console you get the wired headset that you can actually communicate with people online easily as plugging it in, with a ps3 you have to buy a headset.

I bought a 360 but later sold it to get a PS3.  Why?  Because I'm a PC gamer, and all of the Xbox "exclusives" that I wanted to play generally found themselves going to PC.  Not so with Sony exclusives, such as God of War (which I'm a huge fan of).  Also, I have a lot of PS2 games that I still need to finish, making a 60GB PS3 a perfect choice.  Factor in that I can now watch Blu-Ray movies and the PS3 was just the most logical choice for me personally.

A little give or take half of the sweet games on 360 are on PS3, PS3 has LittleBigPlanet (YES!) and Bluray. Then again, I really want Dead Rising.

I know I'm late but I can't stand this question.  Here's the top 10 games being played on the "superior" online of live.  I posted three other "replacement" games off to the side that can only be played on the PS3 as the 7 others can be played on both systems.   Take your pick.  All these other games people always talk about the 360 having come down to numbers 2, 3, and 4.  The library is bigger like the Wii's is bigger.  More crap doesn't mean better.

1 Call of Duty 4
2 Halo 3                 2. Metal Gear Solid 4
3 Fable II               3. Little Big Planet
4 Gears of War      4. Resistance 2
5 FIFA 09
6 World at War Beta
7 Saints Row 2
8 GTA IV
9 Madden NFL 09
10 Fallout 3

You fail to add RPGs on to your list, which currently heavily favor the 360 (much to my shock as I bought a PS3 for RPGs).

his logic is flawed anyways, saying there is more "crap" on the 360 when its very much so the other way around, the 360's collection is huge and is really great versus the PS3's weak number of good games out there. The only way the PS3 could have a better library is if you have the original 60gb version that lets you play psx and ps2 titles.

seriously if overall entertainment at a reasonable price is what your looking for go with the ps3 but if it's gaming go with a 360 or PC (yes txa i included your holy grail Wink).

Not my list.  Comes from majornelson.com.  It's the top 10 games being played on Live.  Odds are this person will be playing one or more of these games.   My three alternates were just from the different system.  And yes, just because there are more games does not make them good games.  Hence my word CRAP.  More doesn't equal better.

I can't even get into a discussion with someone who brings up RPG's.  That's YOUR taste.  They didn't mention that's what they were looking for.  They don't have to get a 60GB...The 20, and old 80 do just fine for PS2 games.  Or...A PS2.

What do all of your friends and family have? If you know a lot of people with 360 then maybe you should look into getting a 360. If they have PS3s then look into getting a PS3. Also look at the games that each system has exclusive rights to and ask yourself, "is it worth not being able to play ____?" Hope this helps you decide. :)
