Just forked over $99 to Microsoft get my xbox repaired. I am getting disc read errors even on new games now. Since when do optical drives go out inside of a year? grr.... If the 360 wasn't the only platform for so many different greats.... well, lets just say that I'll likely buy a PS4 next generation.
And I just got Lost Odyssey and CoD4 goozexed to me this week [:'(]
/rant off
Well, I guess its time to finish Zelda on the Wii and get some good Guild Wars time in
In a month (when my console comes back), anybody want to get together for a round of CoD? Cheez, here's your chance to pass on the LVP to me
For President!
This is a very measured and rational rant. Thanks for sharing.

yea, my 360 broke recently. Only had it for about 8 months and it was the HDMI model. It's strange that my friend and I both had our 360 break after the latest update.. I'm sure it was just coincedence tho ;)
You should of just said you have a red ring of death xbox that sometimes works but most of the time red rings and they would of fixed it for free
I still do not know one person IRL that has had a 360 break on them, out of about 12 of my RL friends owning the console.
I'm scared.
Ever time I turn on MY 360, I pray for the RROD.
cheeznrice: Ever time I turn on MY 360, I pray for the RROD.
Really? Yesterday I got the RROD and I was freakin out and then I turned it of and turned it back on and then there was just 1 ring and I was like "yays" and then I turned it of and on again and it worked and it has been working for a day now.
It is really sad that for all the good stuff about the X360 that it is the least reliable console in history.

darkneji:then I turned it of and on again and it worked and it has been working for a day now.
It is unfortunate (or is it ), but your days are numbered.
darkneji i would call microsoft now and tell them that you are getting the ring but only every once in a while and they will pay for everything thats what i had to do and as for naytk you should have your box back in a week
If it broke inside a year, why is it not under warranty?
I'm not going to let those evil people touch my halfway broken Xbox! Also it still is under warranty obviously.
sup909: If it broke inside a year, why is it not under warranty?
Warranty paperwork says it covers 90 days. However, I do still feel wronged in the sense that optical drives, when not abused, should last several years.
I won't fight with a service rep about this though; I shouldn't have to. They know they have made a number of mistakes in the hardware manufacturing and good form is to own up to that. The simple solution is to put my money to work by supporting the competition on the next generation.
As a retail manager, I always shake my head when somebody complains about a price and buys the item anyway. In a capitalist system, you invoke change by refusing to buy a product and thus refusing the company any profit, making the inventory turns drop. Arguing, but still buying is far less effective. On the flipside, purchasing an item gives a vote of approval for the item by creating inventory turns, which, in turn, lets the retailer know that the item is a more popular item, and drives them to purchase the product again from their supplier.
I could apply that logic and refuse to pay the 99 bucks, but I've already invested in the product. Now, I'll just wait for my console to return fixed, and then send feedback about my displeasure and resolution to no longer support microsoft consoles after this generation. Also, I am quite happy with Ubuntu, so no more OS software either.
I do, however, believe that 99 bucks is a fair price for the additional 1 year warrantee and the repair. I merely stipulate that the console itself is not working properly now solely at the fault of Microsoft and/or its business partners in either retail, manufacturing, design, or transport.
It's only my one vote, but it might just add another ounce to the scale that helps MS improve, or helps another company overtake them if they don't improve.
Man... I didn't know I had such a large opinion!
