Doom N64 are you kidding me, wow...to each their own I guess.  I might as well save Hexen for the 64 or maybe Duke Nukem...

In no particular order here they come, the 10 games that deserve to be saved from whatever

Metal Gear Solid 4

Perfect Dark

Twisted Metal 2

Chrono Trigger

Resident Evil 4

Super Mario All Stars and Super Mario World

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 ps1

Sonic 2

GTA San Andreas

Fallout 2

Runners up include Powerstone 2, Shenmue II, Super Smash Brothers, Mario 64, Sonic and Knuckles, Shining Force, (I can do this all day)

Games that deserve to be melted to slag....(too many to list)

  • Civilization 2
  • KotOR
  • Deus Ex
  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Dragon Warrior
  • Portal (the weighted companion cube rocks! and then there's the cake!  and that song at the end!)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, 12
  • The Thief Series
  • Zelda:  Twilight Princess
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Wii Sports
  • Gunship (Commodore 64, not the weak Pentium PC remake)
  • Tron (arcade)

I have to agree with your choice of Final Fantasy VII, both for the PS and Eidos' PC version. I doubt there was ever a game so engaging, addictive, and eminently replayable. I first played it on my original PS, my PS2, several PCs including the current machine (HP Pavillion a6333w with Win XP Pro 64 Ed installed), and now am looking for a copy for my brand new PS3. So, that in mind, here are my 'Top Ten' all time favorite games:

Final Fantasy VII (PS & PC)

Civilization (All versions, All platforms)

Sid Meyer's Pirates! (PC)

Leisure Siut Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (All versions, All platforms)

F22 Raptor (PC)

Microsoft Flight Simulator (FS X for the PC ROCKS!) (All versions)

Sim City (PS, PC)

Diablo II (PC, with all expansion packs)

Grand Turismo 5: Prologue (PS3, with Logitech's Driving Force GT steering wheel/pedals)

Gengi (PS3, Love the graphics, esp. Shizuka... one hot babe!)

I don't mind work; but I refuse to do it for a living.

Hmmm ... there has to be a reason for each one, really ... and it isn't obvious which ones

- Zelda: Ocarina of Time (action-adventure)

- Wii Sports (show off the Wii)

- XCOM (tactical turn-based strategy)

- Baldur's Gate 2 (or Planescape: Torment, pinnacle of RPG)

- Final Fantasy VII (best example of cutscene laden emo-jRPG)

- Civilization IV with expansions (or II, no worries)

- Star Wars Jedi Knight (best FPS / Third person action)

- Gothic 2 (best action-RPG)

- Advance Wars DS (best handheld strategy game)

- Golden Sun (best handheld RPG)

I guess that is 10 ...

This question is so hard, I skipped replying to it the first time it was floating around... but since it got bumped recently... and it's a lazy Friday at work.... in no particular order:

1. Super Mario 3 (Platformer Excellence)

2. The Orange Box (OK I cheated there, but Portal = Puzzle Excellence, and HL 2 = Story Driven FPS excellence)

3. Okami (Almost out of spite to the current Earth Dwellers who made this a commercial failure... including myself who gets used games... but also for 3rd person adventure/action excellence)

4. Grand Theft Auto IV (Sandbox Excellence - also for excellence in social commentary)

5. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (Same reasons as GTA 4, but I couldn't decide between these two, and since they're both quite different I thought both of them deserved a spot)

6. X-Wing/Tie Fighter battle chest (Excellence in Space Combat Awesomeness)

7. Baulder's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn (Excellence in RPG)

8. World of Warcraft (This is what the current generation of gaming will be most remembered for, like it or not)

9.  Starcraft (RTS Excellence)

10.  Full Throttle (for Excellence in Point n' Click Adventure Games - and because I never played the more famous ones like Day of the Monkey, Tentacle Island, and Grim Cinco De Maya)
