Doom 3 - XBOX: Why....?

I'm playing Doom 3 for the XBOX, and really enjoying it. But I have a question....I understand why the Zombies, Imps, Relevants, and Pinkies are after me....but why are the human soldiers shooting at me? Only the scientists talk to me; all the other humans start shooting at me!

I always thought of them as more intelligent zombies being controlled by a greater power.
