The Toronto Blue Jays just dropped their manager, and have re-hired Cito Gaston. Remember him? Is this fan service? What a random re-hire? I' always wondered why Cito Gaston never found a job elsewhere after his success in Toronto in its hey-day...so I am doubly surprised that he is back, and with Toronto. I liked Cito Gaston as a manager a decade ago, but now it seems like the Raiders are hiring Art Shell all over again. We all know how that went down.

I will always remember Cito Gaston as the asshat who would not put Mike Mussina (an Oriole at the time) in the All-Star game when it was at Camden Yards.
Well, we all know how poorly the Art Shell experience went. Many of the games in professional sports change so quickly that it is hard for someone from an earlier time to keep up, and that was one of the biggest complaints about Mr. Shell.
There have also been a few succesful stories as well, when Marv Levy came back to the Bills as GM. He was only there for 2 years, but he made some major changes in personnel, and also some great coaching changes and instilled a spirit of rebuilding through quality player personalities, instead of just talent. I know they were only 7-9 last year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills as 10-6 this year with the 2nd wildcard spot.
I know your example is more akin to Art Shell, but I just wanted to point out, that there is always a chance of success in any gamble.

Hey, it's not like the Blue Jays are gonna do anything this year. That division is stacked with the Red Sox, Rays, and Yanks. I think this is just a way to get people to keep coming to the games for the rest of the season. They'll get a new manager for next season and try to compete then.
