The Legend Of Heroes series is another great set of RPG games for the PSP.  The first and 3rd games are very well done story and character wise, while the 2nd game was a tad boring, but you definitely need to play it to enjoy the awesome finale in the 3rd part.  A must pic up for classic J-RPG fans

Definately go for it. But one game you MUST get is God of War: Chains of Olympus. I'm not even a fan and it was the best game for psp so far. Also, if you like final fantasy, go for crisis core too.

Then there are the SOCOM, GTA, and  many other good titles for it. I'm not quite sure how people can say there are no good games for it. And with DAH! BWU coming out in a few months, now is the time to get one.

If you're into RPG's the PSP is DEFINITELY worth it. Myself, I'm not that big on RPG's, but the PSP did prove handy for pictures/videos/mp3's.

I'm on my second PSP. I just snagged a slim a few weeks ago with the GoW bundle. I previously bought one on launch day and sold it about a year ago. I mostly got the new one for Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles and GoW and MGS Portable OPs, but I've fully gotten back into the system. Now I love the PSP all over again.

I think the selection of games over the past year or two has really improved. The first year was pretty tough all I played was Lumines and Twisted Metal.

The remote play has worked pretty well for me. I started up a game of Parasite Eve the other day and I haven't play that game since like 1998. I wish more PSN games supported this feature. The only one I know of is Pixel Junk Monsters.

If you're on the go a lot, PSP is a MUST. I've got a DS and PSP with lots of good games for each and I find myself playing PSP a lot more often (although sometimes I bring my DS around more cause its more portable). It's got close to PS2 graphics and despite popular opinion, I think it's got a great library of games.

If you're looking for some good strategy RPG games, try Disgaea, FF Tactics, or Jeanne D'arc.

Final Fantasy Crisis Core was a great RPG too (not much grinding though, if you find that interesting), and IMO has better graphics than most PS2 games.

Crisis Core is fantastic.  It has a lot of replay value with the Hard Mode and 300 missions.  I bought my PSP for that game alone.  Still don't have anything else for it.  But this thread has given me some ideas.

I bought a PSP in December of 2006 and I still don't think I've finished a game on it yet.  My wife enjoys it quite a bit as she plays a broader spectrum of games than I do.  It wasn't until recently that I've rediscovered how useful it can be Wink

How's the online functionality for multiplayer?

Kinda like the DS. Wi-Fi, no friend codes or way to save friends to my knowledge, basically just quicklplay type options.

The online is free and full speed. And unlike the DS, doesn't require friend codes, has a chat feature in most games, and allows you to connect to WPA-encrypted routers instead of only WEP.

I think that the PSP is definitely worth it ... I reviewed about 100 PSP games for GamerDad before he stopped doing reviews and went to the blog format, and have since been doing RPG reviews for RPGWatch (under 'The Whole Game in My Hand') and done about a dozen post-GamerDad.

I own both 'Phat' and 'Slim' and have seen some advantages to both.  The Slim has shorter loads in some games, Skype ability (very nice), and a nicer weight feel.  The Phat feels more solid, plain and simple.  The TV-out on the Slim is nice, but it isn't like you get the full screen or anything, which is disappointing.

There are plenty of good games, and PSP fans will generally trot out how there are more games with >80% Metacritic scores for the PSP than the DS, but that is really meaningless.  Fact is, there are godd games in pretty much every genre on both systems.

The 'other stuff' depends on what you want.  The PSP is an inferior MP3 player to pretty much anything released post 2000, the pictures and videos are inferior to my iPod Touch, and so on.  But as an integrated device I have definitely used it for games, Skype, video, music and photos and it does well enough.
