I'm curious about the PSP.  I haven't read a whole lot about it, and I'm wondering what you guys think of it.  Are there a lot of good games for it?  Just so you know, I'm mostly into RPG and strategy games.  Also, if you could give me a short list of your favorites on the system, that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is maddengly addictive

Castlevania:  Dracula Chronicles X

If you like Mega Man you have Megaman Powered Up and Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X which are remakes of the first Mega Man and Mega Man X games.

As for RPGs you have

Tales of Eternia (Import from England and the PSP is region free)

Breath of Fire 3 (see above)

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (port of the first game with new CG FMVs)

Final Fantasy 1 &2 (enhanced version of Dawn of Souls)

Star Ocean 1 and 2 (full remakes)

 Gurumin (action RPG)

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (full remake of the original

Jeanne d'arc (strat RPG)

And the PSP itself is a nice little piece of hardware. If you're into custom firmware, you can play emulators for consoles from the N64 and back. And while UMB movies are a ripoff you can rip yoour DVD or use other video files and convert them to PSP format and stick them on your memory stick to watch.

Do the emulators work well?  That's something I've always been interested in.

Well the NES emulation is pretty perfect. The SNES emulator played everything full speed except Super FX games. But I haven't updated it ina  while so that's probably been fixed. And the N64 emulator is still in development. I haven't tried it myself but I believe it's at or approaching playable speeds.

Please refrain from further emulation talk.  You can find countless of other sites that speak of this, in specific regards to the PSP.

I didn't think that the PSP was worth it, but I just picked this up again, a GoW bundle and I have fallen in love with it all over again.  I think that the original PSP is a better build and of better quality tho.

Yea but the new model lets you play the games on your TV, plus you can use the original PSP battery to get longer life out of thing. I'm probably going to trade in my original for a Slim pretty soon.

I agree with Lurk that the fat feels better and is a more sturdy machine, but I appreciate the advantages that the slim provides (faster guts, raised d-pad, TV out, pending GPS device).

I didn't have the fat very long before I got rid of it, but later down the road something possessed me to spring for a slim and I've enjoyed it much more for whatever reason. But as with all handhelds I've owned, I find myself using it in spurts where I'll play the hell out of it for two weeks but then not touch it for the next three.

My personal favorite PSP games include:

- Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness

- Dead Head Fred

- Gitaroo Man Lives

- God of War: Chains of Olympus

- Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (1 or 2)

- Monster Hunter Freedom 2

- Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (yes, it's listed twice. Because I love it that much)

- Patapon

- Sid Meier's Pirates!

- Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

Personally, I thought I made a mistake when I first bought my PSP. Once Monster Hunter Freedom came out I realized I made a great choice. Now I love my PSP and all the other awesome games I have for it.

Well, to me it is. Monster Hunter is one of those games that people either love or just plain can't get into. At the very least it's worth borrowing from a friend/renting to see what you think.

As of now, my favorites are

1. Ratchet and Clank Size Matters

2. Killzone Liberation (the online mode is really fun)

3. GTA Vice City Stories (Missions are longer and more challenging than LCS)

I have yet to try the Monster Hunter games.

How much better is VC:Stories?

Liberty City Stories sucked. It actually made me miss the loading issues of he PS2 games. The pop-in, load times, and frame-rate were horrible.

LCS was actually ok, but VCS is much better. There are many more things to do. You are able to fly in helicopters, jet skis, bikes, boats, etc. There are helicopter ambulance missions as well. One thing that I believe will never be gone though it's those stupid environmental pop ups when you are driving really fast. The frame rate for me wasn't as bad as in LCS. I do hate the mission load times though, but they're not as long as the LCS ones. The load times when going to another city are much shorter than LCS as well. For some reason when doing Vigilante missions I never get wanted when I kill the criminals, must be a new feature as well. So yeah, in my opinion VCS is the better PSP GTA.
