Anyone heard anything new about this game's release date and what platforms its coming out on?
I remember reading that the release date was postponed, but also that it was not going to be a PS3 exclusive. I only have a PS2 but loved the first mercenaries game -was really looking forward to playing it if on the PS2...

C'mon. Take a step into the next-gen. You know you want to... Seeing how GTA updated to the next-gen, I have high expectations for Mercenaries 2. I think the PS2 is actually getting the game as well, but if you loved the first one, don't want to see the second at its full potential?
Well, I know I'll be getting a PS3, its just a matter of when - I'm still catching up on great titles on the PS2. But I agree with you - I have really high expectations for this game (especially after they pushed back the release date because they weren't happy with everything), and I think the PS2 version will be half the game on the PS3...
But honestly, are there enough titles on the PS3 yet to make it worth spending the $400-600?
the release date is supposed to be Aug 31st of this year, and yes itll be coming to the PS2
i dont think its coming to ps2 but it might, the big sequel i'm waiting for is freedom fighters 2.
Halo 3 MVP x5.
Yes, Mercenaries 2 is coming for the PS2, but it isn't going to be very good. It doesn't have as many levels or vehicles.
I'm with you on the next-gen consoles. I own somewhere between 70-100 PS2 games already, yet there's still more PS2 games I want to play or am excited about playing than there are on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii combined. Way more. Honestly I've played all 3 systems and I don't think any of them are worth the price. Well, the Wii maybe because it's at least something different, the price isn't too bad and the good games are there (just not a huge quantity yet). But, yeah. I'm still seeking out PS2 games.
As for Mercenaries 2. I'm kinda surprised because it got poor reviews on all consoles. I haven't played it yet, but would someone who has played the PS2 version in particular please clue me in on whether it's really as bad or as mediocre as the reviewers say it is? I LOVED the first Mercenaries so I had high hopes for this one...
I, too am hoping to hear from the Goozex community about this game. I have it active on requests for both the PS3 and the 360. It's not a game I'm willing to go out and buy but I really want to try it. I may try and rent it this weekend.
Does this game feature any kind of multiplayer?

When did 75 or so become 'poor'? When I rate a game in that area I am saying it is good but with some flaws.
I knew they were working on a PC version but didn't realize it wasa simul-release. But with STALKER: Clear Sky, Witcher EE and Crysis Warhead all next week ... this probably won't happen!

The version of the game to avoid is the PS2 one unfortunately.
Check out this article from GamesRadar which is specifically about how bad the PS2 translation is.
Ouch, that is really disappointing...just watching the side-by-side video where they're comparing the old ps2 mercenaries to the new one hurt.
I am so disappointed - but will still probably try it anyway...hopefully the glitches aren't as annoying as they might seem
Catastrophic: the game has a co-op version where you can play with someone else, but I read that it can be really annoying at times, because the 2 players have to be within a certain radius of each other. For some missions, it can be really hard (like each of you driving a car - imagine how annoying that is, making sure you're both right next to each other)
Lesson learned. Never buy a last-gen port of a next-gen game.
I just got Mercenaries 2 for ps2 2-3 weeks ago (I have the slim ps2) and its fine. Heres how it works:
No bombs, deliveries, or anything that you can get on the mafia website in Merc 1, until you first do a helicopter mission for deliveries, a mechanic mission for I don't know what, havent gotten that far, and a jet pilot mission for bombs. (However, you can get a vehicle or supply package at your HQ) I have done every single mission possible to where my only choice is to do the helicopter mission, but let me tell you it is freaking impossible. You have to gun down little RPG wielding VZs with a chopper side gun. The pilot moves as slow as possible and the chopper goes down with 4-5 RPG hits (mission failed). No exaggeration.
Go on google or ign or gamespot or something, look at a picture of the Universal Petroleum HQ on the ps2, then the U.P. HQ on the ps3. That gives you a feel on how hopelessly sad the ps2 graphics are compared to the ps3.
BDW, civillians don't die. It's not possible. You stand there and peg them with RPGs all day and you just loose $1000 per hit and make everyone hate you.
Oh, and no deck of 52 here. Just 8 or 10 guys (dont remember which) spread in easy-to-reach-with-a-helicopter locations across the board. Max $55,000 reward, alive. Pretty sad.
In my opinion, Merc 1 is better. If you are dying, rent Mercenaries 2 in the hopes that you will see my point before you shell out $40 for it.
