My dad is going to China for a business trip. He may or may not have a day to go shopping. If he does, I would like him to look out for some blu-ray movies and PS3 games because it's cheaper there (7 dollars for 1 US dollar...so I'm told). Anyway, before I make a list of things for him to look for, are they capable of bootlegging blu-ray discs yet? If not, yay. If so...godamnit.

    Thanks all. Cheers ^__^

There are burnable blu rays on the market all ready (BD-R), so conceivably the answer should be yes, there are bootleg blu-rays. Not that I view pirated movies of any form Angel

Thanks Mafafu for the quick answer.

Man...gamespot forum mods are abusive of their power. They gave me a warning for the following: "Reason for moderation: Illegal Activities -- e.g. Begging and/or Providing ROM/Warez/MP3/Cracks/etc"

Bleh...thought it would be okay to visit their site ...but I guess not.

That's odd. Gamespot follows the same ruleset as gameFAQs(same boards) and traditionally it was always allowed to discuss as long as you didn't beg or provide.

I think the burnable blu-ray discs are specifically for data.  Movies on Blu-Ray have a watermark that must be on the disc or it won't run.  The burnable blu-ray discs don't have this watermark so they will not be accepted as movies in a blu-ray player, but it should be okay for data.  That's my understanding anyway.  I'm not 100% sure.

Blu-Ray discs are both burnable via PC and playable on the PS3 when dealing with video files.

Beyond that, please keep this discussion about whether or not you've ever seen a bootlegged BRD when dealing with importing from China. I don't want to have to start deleting anyone's posts for talking about how to actually do it.

when they say it's 7 chinese dollars for $1.  it's not like you can get $7 of good for 1 american dollar.

I've been to Hong Kong and China and the quality you get is piss poor on DVD. If your going to buy to get some blu ray your missing the point. Blu Ray is for high fidelity viewing. You don't want a clearer version of a handy cam image. Trust me. It's not worth it.

Sure you might get some DVDs for like $3 but it's more than likely going to be a VCD labeled as a DVD.

Now games, games over there are cracked like crazy. I got a funny stare when I bought a real game there. funny stuff.

Also, if you ever go. Learn the word "cop". It will be very useful. I heard that word and had to jump out of the store as it closed in like 30 sec.

I don’t know about the BR but my wife just came back from the Philippines and brought back a stack of burned PS2 and PS3 games she got in cugon market (a huge out side market where you can buy any thing ....if you know what I mean)Stick out tongue we tried them in our PS3 nun of them played. I took them to my friends game repair shop and tried them in both PS2 counsels, still did not play. Where sending them back for her nephew to have.... oh well they only cost her about $5 us dollars. In the PI its 40 to $1 and it spends like it.Wink

Another thing to check for is to make sure that the blu-ray you are buying is region free.  At the moment, I believe they are all region free but there are/were talks to make them region-locked.  Again this is just for the movies, not sure about the games.

Im aware that it is possible to be done, but blu ray media is relatively expensive.. so makes me think that they wouldn't be pirating because of cost effectiveness

lol, alright. Thanks for the information all. I know the chinese word for cop, but it would depend on which dialect is being said. That's pretty funny though. They close the shop until they go away or something?

Dang...now I don't know what to have my dad find for me in China.

To afraid of bird flu or whatever it is that causes birds to die over there. Plus it's going to be a bit cold when he gets back with it. ^__^

General Tsao's chicken is one of my favorites. I introduced a friend to it and he told me he never had it before. What blasphemy!

Interesting fact* - General Tsao was actually a vegan.

*the poster of this fact is under no obligation to actually prove it.
