Pretty good game, cant beat the price. It looks really good and controls very realistically. However I do have one huge gripe with the game, and that in the multiplayer. When you go into MP you can only join a race thats already set up for the class of car you want to use. There is no lobby or server that allows you to invite friends. For me that makes the MP all but useless. On a positive note, everything you earn online for cash also goes toward your career, just like Forza 2. However, If I had my choice between the two, Id say Forza, its just soooooo much deeper.

For some reason I am offended by selling the prologue of a game.

First of all let me start by saying to all of you who say this isnt a demo, hog wash. Its a precursor to the full version of the same game, aka Demo. There is nothing in this game that wont be in the full GT5 version, aka Demo. Does that make it a bad game? no. However it does rub me the wrong way to charge people $40.00 for a DEMO. Thats it for my "Prologue" of this game, now onto my little review.

GT5P is a great looking racing game. Everything looks great. the lighting, the shadows, the environments. Especially when you drive from inside the car, which for me also seems to make it easier to control. All the cars looks fantastic and do there real life counterparts justice.

Most impressive to me is the way reflections of everything around your car shine in the paint job. From trees and clouds to the grand stands and the other cars on the track. Very impressive.

On the other hand I was a little more than put off by the lack of any collisions damage at all, not even scratches, nothing. You can drive 100MPH into a jersey barrier and nothing will happen to your car, not only asthetically but performance wise as well. Your allignment wont even be effected. So much for uber realism.

The sound in GT5P in my opinion is one of its strong suites. Every car Ive used so far has sounded different than the one before it. Powerfull cars sound powerfull and wimpy cars sound wimpy, yet they all sound different. the sounds of the track change as well. There is a huge difference between the sound your tires make on the road vs the sound they make if you slip onto the grass, dirt or any other surface.

Most impressive about the sound is when you drive from the in the car view you can actually hear the drafting. When you are directly behind the car in front of you there is no wind noise, but as soon as you get out of the cars draft you can hear the wind all around you. Everything sounds fantastic, crank up that surround sound.

The core gameplay is all about racing, winning, buying. You start with about $30,000. Which isnt ebough to buy too much but maybe a low end Mazda and a few other cars. As you race you earn money to buy more cars. As you start there are only about 4 races that your car qualifies to race. However, you wont win enough money to buy another car to race the other race's after those four events. so, you'll have to either retry the events you have already won to collect the same purse again, or you can race online for a greater chance to win bigger purses as there are more cars in the online races.

Online is about as deep as a Mr. Turtle pool, not very. You go to your garage, you select the car you want to use, you select a race that suits that cars class, you nget matched upo with other people, and thats it. No friends, no private sessions, no party system, no voice chat, nothing! Thats where this game takes the biggest hit for me. I love to play games online and with friends, now Ill only do it when I need the money for my career.

GT5P is a decent racer. Call it what you want, Im still calling it a grossly over priced demo. Do I think it should have been free? not really, but I really dont think its worth $40.00 even with the lack of great titles on the PS3. the reason being is that there is so little depth here to keep anyone interested foir too long and the multiplayer isnt going to help that any.

I will say this, if this is a preview of what GT5 is going to be, I dont think Im going to buy it or even Goozex it for that matter. My suggestion is if you have a 360, then get Forza 2, graphically Forza isnt as nice, but its Sooooooo much deeper for the same price or even less.

Flame away Sony fanboys, flame away.

Recommendation: Rental/Goozex

So, to be objective, what would your rating be if it was a free demo?

I dont think it would have changed it much. Its simply too shallow, and online is almost not worth it. But yeah, I guess that the fact that its a $40.00 demo might have sunk it no more than 5 points or so.
