Another day, another baseball review, actuallly same day different review.

Yes, I also picked up MLB The Show along with 2K8 (as well as Bully for the 360 and God of War:COO for the PSP) It was an expensive Tuesday.

When it comes to sports games and frontend menu's The Show has nailed it! Its perfection, its simplicity and its even entertaining. I love the real life radio calls they use from games last season brought to you buy the voice of your favorite team or the voice of your least favorite team.

The soundtrack is pretty good as well, not that it matters since you can import your own tunes into the game via your PS3 HDD, which I am proud to say mine has 3500 songs on it, though there is a limit im not sure of at this time,

All the game modes are there including the amazing carrer mode. Create a player, try out in spring training, get an offfer, and work your way up through the system. the best part is you dont play the team games, you play only your guy. You can sim everything to "your next appearance", which is helpfull when you get called up to the bigs to ride the pine. This, in my opinion is the best game mode in any sports game Ive ever played. Those who played this game last year will know what I mean.

the stat tracking for your players/team is as deep as Ive ever seen, as is the minor league systems. If you are a baseball purist and enthusist, this is the game for you. the best word to describe it is DEEP!

Graphically it looks alot better than last year. From the faces to the field to the crowd to the stadiums, everything feels alot less ported over from the last gen. Everything moves along at a buttery smotth frame rate (unlike the competitors slugish game).

Controlls, are as always with this series, simple. Perhaps too simply. At times you dont feel nearly as in controll of whats going on as you might in other baseball games. Sure there is the pitching meter, the same one as last year and the exact same one from MVP05. Batting is done by guessing the pitch type/location, and simply pressing X for contract or B for power (Power swing not available in rookie mode). I do wish more was implimented as it was in the 2K game to make the player feel more in control of the players actions.

Sound wise there annoucers are great and alot less repetative than in other games. the timing is good and they really seem to react to whats going on on the field. Every thing sounds pretty genuine. The cracks of the bat, the stadium vendors, the chatter from the crown.

Let me list a few minor but what I feel are awsome features this game has. First my favorite, the rosters are updated on a weekly basisand include attribute changes. so if a player in real life is in a slump his attributes will reflect it in the updates. you now have the ability to save your single player games at anytime, love that too. Once again there are online leagues and they appear to be very deep, liek everything else in this game. They arent affraid to make player models fat. I always hate it when I see David Ortiz come to the plate looking like Coco Crisp.

In closing, other that some less than innovative controls this is the best baseball game out this year (Sorry gamers who only own a 360),and quite possibly ever! It should keep you interested at least throughout the entire MLB season.

My Rating: 9/10

OK, PSWii I have to ask this and my bank account is secretly hoping you'll say no... lol.

If I go pick this or MLB 2k8 up, can we get some online going some night this week? I loves me some online sports.

Which is the better game in your opinion?

If you have the means (and a PS3) Id have to recommend The Show. 2K is so buggy and has always has lag issues when it comes to online play, then add in the frame rate issues and you have one painfull online game.

Dont get me wrong, 2K is fun and has its place, but The Show simply plays better right out of the box.

As far as playing, anytime!

This is NOT a review, at least not yet.  The MLB: The Show series of baseball sims has been my favorite for the past few years.  I am so excited to play this one.  I picked it up yesterday and tried to play, but I think the server was down or something, I couldn't play while signed into PSN.  Disconnecting from PSN solved the problem, but online play is a big reason why I play, so hopefully this will be fixed soon.  Then I will post my review.

The past few years this has been my favorite series.  And this is coming from a 2k guy.  I dabbled with the 2k series a bit on the 360 the other day, and it has some neat new features to make for a more involved baseball experience...but I think that the defense and overall playability of The Show has won me over.  I even liked the PS2 version the past few years, as there were more gamers there.

Great to know that this is still a winner.

If MLB2K8 wasnt so damn buggy (again) it would be alot closer, but there is no excuse for its condition when you buy exclusive rights to something.

Have you guys picked it up and played yet?  If you have, let me know if you've experienced the same problem as I had last night (game  freezing up at start) while connected to PSN.  Maybe we can create a Goozex league if there are enough players?

I have not experienced any problems at all. Ive only played 2 complete games though. Wish I could say the same for 2K8.
