This is the first installment of the "Fantasy Harvest Moon" series. A bunch of new features included in this new series are Crop and Item Levels, Weapons, Forging Armors and Weapons, Real Time Combat, Spells, Obtaining Monsters from the many Caves, Seeing the Cost of items before you ship them, and many many more. Although the sound may be a bit gritty at some points and the voice acting is appalling ; it doesn't take away from the actual game-play. As a long-time fan of the series, voice acting is a luxury, so I'll take what I can get. But overall, Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon is quickly climbing the charts to be one of the most promising Harvest Moon games yet.
What is appealing about the original Harvest Moon's gameplay? How do Rune Factory's changes impact your enjoyment?
To me, the ideals of Harvest Moon games are generally appealing. They stand for a natural way of life so to speak. You live on a farm, surrounded by friends, whom you interact with. By knowing them, you know a bit of yourself, and through hard work, and when everything is finished, you can look back on your life on the farm with a bit of self-reassurance that you have lived your life to the fullest without any regrets what-so-ever. Rune Factory is more of a fast-paced Harvest Moon. The elements are still there, and it feels like Harvest Moon, but with a lot of special furnishings. The original Harvest Moon games can get a bit boring, doing mundane tasks over and over again, but Rune Factory adds a bunch of other obstacles that just make it fun and really entertaining. Exploring caves, fighting monsters and adding them to your personal collection of farm helpers are just a couple of the new additions to the series. When everything is said and done I would say that the ideals are identical, and I'm beginning to think that I actually enjoy this more than the original game-play.
Great response! Thanks! I'm now looking forward to giving this a try...thanks to your comments it has been pushed higher up the to-play queue.
