I was a little bit skeptic about buying this game at first, but a friend talked me into it. It is a pretty solid game. The single player is average but its a lot of fun going on Xbox Live with a squad and going into co-op missions or free battles. Plenty of people still play this game on Xbox Live so there shouldn't be too much trouble finding a game. Another thing that I love about this game is the customization of Hounds. You can basically go to your garage and make any Hound you put your mind to, its pretty simple although a little confusing at first.
Overall I would recommend this game mainly for Xbox Live, so make sure you know some people that play it, or you can find some friends while playing.
Chromehounds is a good game for several reasons.
The single player campaign is basically just a tutorial; it is worth going through to learn the different types of hounds and weapons you will use. If this is all you play then the game will not be worth anywhere near the retail price.
The real game is online; there is an ever waging war between 3 nations. You must join or create a squad to participate in this part of the game. I suggest playing some free battle to find people you can get along with or message me I’m in a squad that plays weekly now rather then every night like we used to. It takes a little time to get a hand of the controls and aiming certain weapons.
The controls are very responsive, gravity and distance will affect you shots. Moving around will depend on your hound build. The heavier you make it the slower it will move and respond. Different weapons have different reload times and aiming mechanisms.
The graphics in the game are not its strong point they are not distractingly bad, but not as good as other titles we have seen on the next gen consoles. The backgrounds are rather basic on some maps. The game does have good city environments, varied terrains, weather effects and varied times for battles. Some will be a night in total darkness, requiring night vision or the headlights on you hound which are not too effective. There are blizzards and sand storms where you will need thermal vision equipped or you will be blind.
The game truly shines online when you have a good squad. The game play is great when you are with a good group of people. The almost infinite combinations you can use to build your hound is enjoyable, trying out how to get the fastest, most heavily armored and high firepower hound is a great part of the game.
The DLC weapons are a rip off, this was one of the infamous preprogrammed DLC. You need to pay to unlock weapons that are on the disc you paid for already. I hate when M$ and developers pull this crap. Some of them are free and you should pick them up, I did pay for some of the weapons because this game was so fun and I wanted every advantage I could get. Overall the DLC weapons didn’t help.
Over all I would rate the game:
Graphics: 7 / 10 (good but nothing awe inspiring)
Sound: 8 / 10 (The explosions and mech sounds are great)
Controls: 9 / 10 (Very responsive, but take a little getting used to)
Game play: 8 / 10 (Single player is basic and not much fun but online the game is great)
Over all: 8 / 10 (Defiantly a game a Mech fan should play it's a great change from the other shooters on the 360, the online is great and the infinite combinations you can use to build you perfect hound make the game very good. Defiantly worthy of picking up here in a trade.
